Major Weapons

"Major weapons" are an overarching category of powerful magic items.
Their origins and powers are myriad. Some origins and examples are listed below but this is by no means all-inclusive.
Major weapons can take a variety of forms such as swords, hammers or spears, but can theoretically be anything.
A user needs to get used to using the weapon, feeling its energies and controlling them. Major weapons can have their own 'personalities' and are one and all unique.

Examples

Sorcerous weapons

Sorcerous weapons are imbued with supernatural durability, lightness and cutting/crushing power. In most aspects they are an improved variant to ordinary weapons in every way.

They are crafted by human sorcerers. This type of major weapon is the most common kind found on Haven, being rather easy to produce relatively speaking, yet these weapons are also the most easily discarded or destroyed.
Sorcerous weapons are fueled by Riftstone or the power of their wielder and the weapon becomes mundane or is outright destroyed if its power ever runs out.

Elemental Weapons

At the will of their wielder elemental weapons are wreathed in a seemingly unending supply of elemental energy. They can produce red hot flames, deathly cold, lethal shocks, a steady supply of poison, shockwaves or cutting winds among other things.

Elemental weapons are made by master-smiths in cooperation with magic users or by mage-smiths. Most often they are made by the Jotnar or Dvuergr from rare materials such as for example dragon bones.
Elemental weapons use Spirit Magic to bind a weapon to an elemental force or outright bind an elemental inside it.

Demonic & Angelic Weapons

Demonic and angelic weapons are much like elemental weapons but often have their own 'personalities' due to their connection to their spirit domain. An infernal weapon might try to corrupt its wielder while an angelic weapon might reject being used for evil.

Demonic or angelic weapons are created rarely by truly exceptional mortal smiths, but most often are made by either celestial or demonic smiths in the Spirit World.
Most demonic or angelic weapons literally have a divine or infernal spirit posessing them both as a means of control and as a power source.

Vampiric Weapons

Vampiric weapons are are supernaturally swift, sharp and grant their wielder a predatory instinct that guides their wielder to kill their opponent in the fastest way possible, siphoning the blood and life-force of their victims away to strengthen their wielders and themselves. Despite their cursed nature, their power is undeniable.

Vampiric weapons were once mundane blades that have been used to end so many lives that the blood stains them permanently and imbues them with an unending hunger for more. As they kill more, they also get more powerful and thus better at killing, in a vicious cycle.
These cursed blades are sometimes created purely by accident as a weapon is used again and again to kill without being cleansed. Alternatively they can be deliberately created by the power-hungry. They are, as the name implies, a particular favourite of Vampires.

Curse: Vampiric weapons are always hungry and constantly try to get their wielder to feed their hunger. They care nothing for their wielders, only thinking of the next kill. They might try to overpower the will of their wielder if they have not tasted blood for too long or will try to make them lose themselves to their bloodlost in battle. It takes a strong will to use a vampiric weapon responsibly.

Minor effects:

Usually major weapons have the property of being resistant to the ravages of time unless damaged, remaining pristine instead. They also do not dull or otherwise require maintenance.

Major weapons also usually feature one or two secondary powers and effects, usually granting the weapon more versatility or shoring up a weakness.
A spear might be able to return to the hand of the wielder, a glaive might double as a bow firing elemental arrows, a sword might grant the user a resistance to heat or cold, a hammer might be able to find hidden doors by tapping it on the walls or floors, a bow might grant is wielder the ability to see in the dark, etc.
