Athar Obrenix

"My dear i'd love to talk to you some more, but i must fix this mistake i made"
— Athar obrenix, to himself
Athar Obrenix is a sorcerer in the now-destroyed town of Tarmsworth.
What Athar Obrenix is most known for is the creation of a field of aether depletion around the town of Tarmsworth.
However before that, Athar used to have a business in the port-town, making and selling riftstone-based arcane weapons. The weapons were in high demands, as at the time Gallica was embroiled in civil war.

Due to the lack of supply of Riftstone, Athar made an attempt to artificially grow the substance; A practice that is possible but highly difficult. After much dedicated trial and error, he succeeded, but realized that with the small amount of aether he was drawing, the amount he was producing was far outpaced by the amount he was using on his weapon production.
In order to remedy this situation, he sought to increase the draw of aether of the arcane mechanism he used to grow his riftstone.
After a while, he was approached by a travelling salesman that advised him to attempt to quicken the siphoning of aether by the use of Fellstone, a highly illegal substance. Though Obrenix was initially skeptical, his experiments soon showed results. He soon be came convinced of Fellston'es utility and integrated it into his great machine.
The Resulting Mechanism worked as intended, but had unintended and devestating side-effects. It drew in far too much aether, and while it quickly started growing large chunks of riftstone in front of the delighted sorcere's face, it also immediately caused an area of aether depletion; killing all life in and around Tarmsworth within less than an hour.
Today, none can enter within a day's march of the town and everybody inside are presumed dead.

The Truth
Athar's tower was spared, due to the ambient aether given off by the now severely damaged machine being sufficient to maintain Athar's life.
Athar has since gone completely insane, his fear of punishment, inability to leave his tower, guilt and isolation destroying his mind. He now speaks to figments of his own imagination and attempts to modify his machine to bring the townsfolk back to life, a futile, wasted effort but one he will likely endeavor in until he dies.

Appearance:

Athar is looking very poor indeed. He is old, decrepid, filthy, wearing rags that have fallen apart and been repaired far too many times.
