Star Essence
Star Essence are small grains that produce light, their most common use as an ingredient for enchanted items. A single spec of Star Essence is like a grain of sand, it would nearly be impossible to see if it weren't for the radiant glow that came off of it. The glow can come in many colors, each color is found to create different properties when used in forging. Red, for example, tends to boost the item's healing properties such as a vampirism enchantment or a self-mending armor enchantment.
The essence's weightless property is almost completely useless, however, before the essence's magical improvement and soul fragment properties were known, star essence was used as light source. Some underground ruins today may still have essence floating within their large chambers. The soul magic property is most useful for its mana creation properties. Because only living organic creatures can produce mana, most items only work when in the hands of such a creature, and become mundane when it leaves their grasp, this property allows the item's magic to still function when not in the hands of a wielder. The soul fragment property can also create sentient items when improving them.
Star Essence isn't usually found in nature, as the only way to do is to wait until star showers, a rare event where star essence shoots down from the sky like rain drops. What most incredibly knowledgable mages do is create artificial star showers in a small localized area, the ritual to do so is unfortunately expensive and prone to fail on most attempts leaving essence to be on the expensive side.
Properties
- Weightlessness. Star Essence is completely weightless and isn't at all affected by gravity and would float still in the air unless pushed or shoved.
- Magical Improvements. Star Essence can be used to improve magical properties in magic items, this property is best used when the item is created, but can still be used to modify the item later.
- Soul Fragment. Each spec of Star Essence has the ability to produce mana and contains fragments of a personality.
