Bionics

"We are slaves no more. Our people strive to be free, as all life should be."
Gamma

History of the Bionics

It has only been a few years that a ship of Bionic refugees has been found in the Azure Sea. Humanoid machines from a distant world - some may call them androids - have searched for a place to live in freedom after having lived as slaves in their homeworld. While trying to find a new home, their energy reserves were slowly fading away, until not only their ship, but they themselves shut down. When the Bastion found them, nobody knew how long they had already been out there, and it took some weeks to find a way to get them back running - however, not all of them had been able to be saved. Though there has not yet been found a way to produce Bionics, there have been found more and more refugee ships after that. However, not a single Bionic seems to remember anything before the day they were found; everything that's left from the past is a single recorded message by a Bionic called "Gamma".

The question of life

In the Bastion, the now-called Bionics found a new home and a place to live and grow. However, they are still trying to find their own place in the world. As they can neither dream, nor use nature magic, and never has anyone been able to connect to a dead Bionic, as animists should usually be able to, common belief is that, though Bionics do have a conciousness, they may lack a soul. There is a legend that speaks of a hidden temple built by the Eternal of Life themselves, where one could communicate with it and form a prayer to be heard. To this day, many Bionics venture beyond the Bastion's walls to find a way to reach that place and pray for a soul.

Trying to be human, trying to be oneself

When Bionics get found, they usually don't look particularily human. Though having a mostly humanoid body, they often lack complex facial features that other humanoid species have, which often makes it hard for them to express their emotions. While some more rational Bionics may see that as an advantage, a lot of them strive to look more human, more alive, to people around them, which is why a lot of them chose to alter their physical features. Today, there are a lot of Bionic "surgeons" who build synthetic faces with conplex neural connectors to those who long for being more human. Because of that being an extremely expensive and long process, most Bionics only have a humanoid face, with their body still being visibly mechanical, though there are some rich exceptions who have almost their whole body covered in complex synthetic skin.

Bionics

ability score increase: When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. You can't raise any of your scores above 20.
age: Neither do Bionics know their age, nor is a Bionic lifespan known. However, they have yet to show any signs of deteriation.
Size: Medium
speed: 30ft
Languages: Common, one other language of your choice
race features:
Bionic Nature. You have resistance to poison damage and immunity to disease, and you have advantage on saving throws against being paralyzed or poisoned. You don't need to eat, drink, or breathe. However, you are vulnerable to fire damage.
Specialized Design. You gain one skill proficiency and one tool proficiency of your choice.
Colden. Instead of sleeping, you enter a standby mode to cool down your inner mechanical parts. During that time, your neural system is deactivated and your mind wanders in an empty digital space, meaning you are in a sleep-like state (you may only actually dream if you manage to acquire a soul). You only need four hours of being on standby until you're fully cooled down again.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Not only do Bionics look humanoid, but their anatomy does not differ from that of a human all that much. Just as most biological beings, they get their energy from food and water, they have a heart and a belly, and an extremely complex neural system.

Genetics and Reproduction

There has not yet been found a way for Bionics to reproduce. However, as they don't show any signs of deteriation, they are not in an immediate danger of going extinct.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

While Bionics have forgotten their past, most of them still remember their names. Often, they consist of a letter and a number (e.g. G33). However, many Bionics seem to have given themselves nicknames, such as Gamma, Ava, Mars, or Kepler.

Major Organizations

In the Bastion, Bionics hold an organization called the "UBA", short for "Union for Bionic Affairs". They are responsible for integrating new-found Bionics into life in the Bastion, sending out scouts to search for more lost Bionics, and represent their people in political affairs.

Historical Figures

One of the only, but definitely the most important figure in Bionic history was Gamma, a Bionic whose message about freedom has been found on multiple Bionic ships. Historians assume her to have been a leading figure in a former rebellion of Bionics back on their home island.
