Glassblades

"No finer weapon will ever grace the battlefield and I stake this on my legacy as a craftsman and an artisan. For a thousand years to come, the greatest heroes of Thripia will wield their black swords engulfed in flame and only the foolish will dare to meet them."
— Nyphos o Chosis
Priceless artifacts few in number, glassblades are bladed weapons, typically swords, made from the unique resource of Pyric Glass. A material found only in the depths of the Pyric Isles, it is a substance similar to obsidian but far less brittle and with a lower melting point that allows it to be used in smithing. It's most unique property, however, is that fire upon it's surface will spread quickly and burn indefinitely with great intensity without harming the blade. As such, glassblades are highly prized weapons. Their wielders are known as Fire Warriors, trained specifically to use their unique weapons; many of the more martial Dynasty Kings have been among their ranks. The first ever glassblade was the imperial relic known as the Dynasty Blade which was forged by Nyphos o Chosis and presented to Dynasty King Apheron.

Apperance

Pyric Glass has a particularly distinctive appearance when compared to other materials. Similar to obsidian, it is black and glossy, but has a dark emerald tint which is particularly visible on the marbling in its surface. Naturally, the actual blade of glassblades is made from Pyric Glass and thus the weapons have a similar appearance. Glassblades will also often have hilts made of another metal, usually bronze, and a handle which is coated in the black skin of Sartans made into leather; useful for its heat resistance. When alight, the fire a glassblade produces will often have a slight green tinge near the surface of the Pyric Glass.

Usage

Prior to the beginning of a battle or a duel, the user of a glassblade will strike the weapon with a flint in order to spark it and set it alight. This fire will spread quickly along the Pyric Glass of the blade. While lit, it is a formidable tool which can be used to both rend flesh and inflict searing burns at the cost of cauterizing an enemy's wounds. Fire Warriors practice a variety of different styles in the use of their glassblades, as well. The weapon must invariably be wielded at a distance from the body, so as not to damage or overheat the user, and will sometimes leave a trail or fire in the wake of its swing. This wake often used defensively as well as offensively by experiences Fire Warriors.
