The Council of Roses

Figures of Interest

Those who sit on the Empress's small council are trusted advisors handpicked to help maintain the power and influence of the Empire. Some work to expand its power, while others strive for economic, political, and social balance.

High Clerist Selena Wisel

As High Clerist, Selena holds the highest position of religious authority in the Empire. Although not directly involved in their affairs, the other Arch-Clerics of the Empire report to her about the matters within their clergy. Selena is well-liked and respected by the clergy and commonfolk and is the Empress' advisor and primary point of contact for theocratic matters. At times, she also interprets religious texts and drafts approved sermons and prayers for distribution throughout the empire.

Ser Alessander Lightbreaker, Spellsword of the Tribunal

Knighted into service after not only conquering his bloodlust but also weakness to suniight, Alessander is a vampire knight who has served House Rosewood for over 150 years. Alessander has served the line of Empress's as a bodyguard, enforcer, and Master of Secrets with unwavering loyalty, willing to even use his dark gifts to ensure their will is carried out no matter what. Alessander is also the leader of the Court of Seraphs and often travels to Spatengrove to meet with Duke Janis Tyrell regarding his duties.

Grand Knight, Ser Vincent Florent

Vincent is the successor to Ser Melchor Fritz and is the current Grand Knight of the Aurelian Empire. As Grand Knight, he is also Commander of the Saber Corps as well as Empress Eunisia Rosewood's royal guard. Vincent holds the highest possible rank within the Empire's armed forces and has supreme authority over the military. His duties on the council involve reporting on the status of each territories armed forces and consulting with his counterpart on the Circle of Starlight, Lord Eudoris Welf on how to implement/defend against arcane warfare (though the two share a mutual hatred of the other).

First Warden, Carinus Blackwall

Carinus is responsible for overseeing the duties and activities of the many Warden Outposts around the Empire. He reports to the Council about any suspicious Outlander activity, but is also responsible for guarding the border and passage routes to the Lumen Theocracy beyond the natural border provided by the Alabaster Peaks. He spends most of his time travelling between outposts monitoring their numbers, activities, and expeditions into the Outlands, and as a result is rarely present at Council meetings. He is a close contact of Lord Scipio Lorraine of the Circle of Starlight due to the latter's interest in the Outlands and it's culture.

The Queen who Never Was, Lady Julianna Rosewood

Lady Julianna is the elder sister of Empress Eunisia Rosewood, and was at one point the next in line to ascend the throne. Due to mysterious circumstances, she went missing for several decades and succession fell to her younger sister. When she returned without warning, she was a changed woman. Rather than insist her sister step down, Julianna was content to support and advise her. Though she is not in charge of a specific political area, she acts as the Empress's final voice of reason and is her most trusted advisor, making sure she does not stray too far from her moral compass.

Justiciar Dominus de la Mare

Lord Dominus is an unyielding man of the law and is in charge of all matters concerning it that the Empress doesn't directly engage with. Dominus has a particular distaste for lawbreakers and is always waiting (sometimes impatiently) to pass legislation to more severely punish those who openly flout the Empire's laws. Notably, Dominus bears a deep grudge against any and all forms of organized religion, and makes his stance on it's integration into the Empire very clear, leading to heated arguments with High Clerist Selena Wisel.

Exchequer Finkel Thryce

Finkel is in charge of managing the flow of tithes to the Heartland as well as overseeing the collection of coin through the Church of Waukeen. Although not particularly devout herself, Finkel understands how important these donations are for the Empire's coffers, and often works with High Clerist Selena Wisel to develop better strategies to motivate donation. Finkel personally attends to the bookkeeping and collection ledgers herself, loathe to leave such responsibility to any of her many assistants.

Crown Envoy Ionos Gleeb

Although Ionos may come off as loud, brash, and abrasive, he is a skilled emissary and uses his social skills in his capacity as the Empress's diplomatic arm to the world beyond the Empire. Behind his outspoken personality, Ionos hides a cynical and cunning side and leverages his perceived ineptitude to catch his rivals and political adversaries off guard. Ionos is an amibitious man, and rumors swirl that such ambitions are guided by his private worship of unsanctioned deities.

Guildmaster Alcina Hightower

Born to a family of carpenters with less than meager means, Alcina rose to prominence by leveraging her connections through the merchant circles and guilds across the Empire. Vowing to never experience pverty again, Alcina governs the Empire's guilds ruthlessly, sneaking extra profit to line her own pockets, but using the vast majority of it to support her elderly parents. At least, that's the story the public has been dripfed. In reality, Alcina is just another identity fabricated by a Herald of the Faceless Ones who has embedded themselves in the Empire's highest circle.
