Tidebound Valley

Many a sea creature's remains lay on the sandy shore, brought in when the tide rises, only to be discarded as the tide returned,

Treasures and trinkets rest upon the valley's floor, some of which are tiny prizes, but no chest or rock shall go unturned.

But take care not to choke on one's own gold, for man's own greed can often kill, and leave his corpse in this ungodly place,

But as sure as rain shall fall and snow is cold, there will be some who seek the thrill, and join the rest in death's embrace.
— An unknown bard's tavern talk.

General Information

The Tidebound Valley is a large saltwater fjord, located on the southern coast of Adelan. The steep cliffs that form the valley give a good vantage point to its entirety. As the tide goes in and out, the water levels in the valley change significantly, exposing huge amounts of the sandy shore. For this reason, the valley is often a target of any treasure hunters who are daring enough to brave the legends of the Sand Beast. As a result of these legends, locals stray from venturing down into the valley, instead preferring to enjoy only the view that the cliffside provides. The valley also hosts a variety of horrible names, due to the threat the rapids pose to passing vessels and the number of lives the Sand Beast has claimed.

Geography

Surrounded by jagged and tall cliffsides, the Tidebound Valley extends deep into the continent of Adelan. It is fairly straight and has no branches. Due to the way that the fjord formed, the end of the valley is very shallow, causing many things to wash ashore, particularly sea life. Bizarre and massive carcasses have been found scattered around the shallow end of the valley. However, as the tides change, these skeletons can go from completely visible to all but entirely submerged. If one were to swim to the bottom of the valley, they would likely find a great number of sunken ships, who were dragged in by rapids and smashed into pieces in the narrow passageway, or damaged and eventually sunk by the shallow spots that could be found at various locations throughout the valley.
Dangerous as the valley may be, it is still renowned for its beauty. From the top of the cliffs that form the valley, one can see for dozens of miles. The view is spectacular as well, from the beauty of the rock face that was carved by glaciers and nature itself to the glistening sea that spills into the valley. With enough luck, one might even be able to spot a breaching sea creature or two.
