Wizened and hunch-backed, the old man frowned as he looked over his many fields of crops. They ranged from sources of food, like wheat and corn, to sources of magic, like grayroot and splitleaf. Recently, the old man had been away for quite some time, and the plants had faltered in growth, almost stagnant in comparison to their typical development. He clicked his tongue as he shook his head. He lifted his crook, which doubled as a walking stick, waving it in slight circles. As he did so, an invisible energy gathered overhead, slowly forming a whirlpool of sorts. After a short while, the old man pointed the crook, casting the energy forwards. It passed over the fields gently, like a gust of wind, nourishing every plant as it passed. With a content grunt, the old man slowly began to make his way back home, so that he might finally get some rest after his long journey.
General Information
Of all the magic professions known in
Adelan, magriculture is undoubtedly the least popular. Agricultural work, as important as it might be, is looked at with immense amounts of derision from those in positions of nobility. It is believed that it's for plebeians and that any mage worth their salt is far seated above working a similar field. However negatively it is viewed, the resources gained from magriculture are not to be snuffed. In fact, many resources required for particular research and rituals are plants and herbs. The use of
Astral Energy is particularly important for those aforementioned plants and herbs, as they are often larger and more potent. Despite these facts, the number of mages who practice magriculture is few, and typically are doing so in punishment for failures or shortcomings. Mages with lesser potential, especially ones with lacking status, are often delegated to such tasks. Most commonly, a farmer performs the menial tasks while a mage supplies and manipulates the Astral Energy.
