Born into the gilded cage of the Imperial Palace, Lucius Thorne was groomed from infancy to rule. His childhood was an education in the complexities of power, a carefully orchestrated symphony of tutors, advisors, and strategists designed to shape him into the perfect Emperor. He excelled in his studies, absorbing military tactics, political machinations, and the intricacies of Imperial law with an uncanny ease that impressed even his most seasoned instructors.
His father, Emperor Augustus Thorne, ruled with an iron fist, upholding the old ways of the Empire, its rigid social hierarchy and strict laws enforced with unwavering severity. Lucius, however, saw cracks in the facade of Imperial strength, vulnerabilities hidden beneath layers of tradition and control. He dug into the Imperial archives, devouring book after book with a voracious appetite. Careful to avoid his numerous handlers, he then delved into the forbidden stores of knowledge hidden deep within the palace. It was there, in the forgotten catacombs that stretched beneath Aetheris, that he learned many truths and emerged changed.
Strange visions haunted his dreams. He understood, with a clarity that bordered on obsession, the true darkness of Yrdde.
When his father died, felled during the battle of Stonegard, Lucius ascended to the throne. He embraced the mantle of Emperor with a chilling certainty, his mind already aflame with plans to prepare the Empire for a war unlike any they’d ever faced.
He initiated a series of radical reforms, seemingly contradicting his father's iron-fisted rule. He loosened restrictions on Chimera, encouraging integration and exploiting their unique abilities to bolster the Imperial military. He opened trade with the Sanctum Alliance and the Free States, amassing resources and building alliances. He even allowed for the worship of deities beyond the Imperial Pantheon, despite his status as a living god himself. Something burned within him, something beyond the ken of his countless advisors. He was going to save the world, even if he had to break it first.
