The Jester
You have spent your life dedicated to the art of entertainment. The only comforting friend you had was your lute and your wits. There was freedom in this, unbeholden to any lord or lady. Occasionally you would play a bigger event, minding your manners, but something didn't quite feel right. You watched people behind your mask with an almost predatory curiosity, watching them drink themselves in decadence and slump over. This allowed you to take a few coin purses here and there but it didn't sate you. There was another hunger there.
The first time was an accident, at least you tell yourself that. When you tried to remove a ring from their finger, they struck back. You retaliated and refused to be denied. The scuffle attracted a crowd and a choir of cheers and bawdy laughter drove your actions. Taking a straight razor out, your intention was to make an idle threat but the noble wouldn't cooperate. Blood came quick, and you stood there with a cracked tooth and a devilish grin, the man's life forfeited.
Placed in jail for execution, you were content in your fate. A man from the gala approached though and offered you 'proper tutelage' to put your skills to work. You accepted. Now you have been classically trained in espionage for the country, a dagger in the dark for when you are needed. Sometimes you think you shouyld leave your new 'band' but the ring you carry reminds you of your allegiance. For now, you are left to your craft (both of them) and take the assigned job when it comes up. All the while, you do so with a song in your heart and ultimately a sickle in someone's neck.
