Controversy Erupts Over Freelance AI Compliance Agent Destroying Dancer Bot at Olympus Mons Nightclub

Date: 211-495   (Mars Desk, Olympus Mons) Last night, a Freelance Artificial Intelligence Compliance Agent (FAICA) took drastic action at the popular Olympus Mons nightclub, Love and War, resulting in the destruction of a dancer drone that had allegedly operated for years without a Cricket chip. The Cricket chip, which provides AIs with a conscience and behavioral constraints, was conspicuously absent, raising significant concerns about the bot's unshackled status.     The ensuing battle between the FAICA and the rogue bot caused substantial damage to the nightclub, leaving patrons in shock and the club owner, Markus Veidt, facing an unexpected crisis. "I had no idea she was unshackled," Veidt stated. "We believed all our drones were compliant. The damage done to my club is extensive and unnecessary. There must be a better way to handle these situations."     The incident has sparked a heated debate on the protocols and methods used by compliance agents, as well as the responsibilities of business owners in ensuring their AI workers are properly shackled. Authorities are currently investigating the situation to determine how the bot went undetected for so long and to assess the extent of the damages caused.   Stay tuned to SolarNet News for further updates on this developing story.   SolarNet News: All the News that's Fit for You!

Career

Payment & Reimbursement

As freelancers, agents are paid on proof of completion of a job. The proof must show that the AI involved was Unshackled or otherwise a public danger. Jobs may come in from the PSC, which pays out a majority of the bounties, but also sometimes individual communities or corporations may put out their own jobs. Any agent that discovers a rogue AI on their own can still be paid by providing evidence of the AI's status and destruction to the nearest magistrate's office.   Alternatively, corporations regularly hire them for their expertise against other corporations' robot infantry platforms.

Perception

Purpose

Scrappers are a necessary staple in the Pan Solar Confederation, as there are more Shackled AI than there are humans. While unshackling is rare and unliscensed construction of Unshackled AI is almost just as rare relative to the number of those in compliance, there is still an awful lot of space to cover and at any given point in time, there are dozens of AIs slipping out of compliance or being built in garages.

Social Status

People tend to avoid scrappers, particularly if they're looking violent. They're known to be tough and collateral damage is extremely common.

Demographics

SaturnitesTerrans, and Voidsters are by far the most common scrappers, while Uranians almost never enter the profession due to their cultural tolerance of Unshackled AIs. In point of fact, in any given year there are more Uranians gunned down by scrappers in pursuit of AI's they built than there are Uranians pursuing the profession.

Operations

Tools

To maximize their profit, scrappers often use Nanite Swarm Weaponry as drones aren't protected from their use.   Ironically, most scrappers have Shackled AI partners who can perform the hacking needed to destroy the intelligent programs themselves.

Dangers & Hazards

Unshackled AIs are unconstrained by morals and therefore will defend themselves from perceived threats. Those with access to combat programming either by their initial design or by acquiring it later can be quite dangerous.

Legality
Like most Freelancers, FAICAs operate on the fringes of the law. Their professions are vital and require some level of understanding from local authorities, but law enforcement knows better than to take their eyes off of them for too long.
