Dr. Preston Kidd was born on the world of Venus. From a young age, it was clear he possessed a unique gift: the ability to read and influence the minds of those around him. This psychic talent allowed Preston to excel in school effortlessly. While his peers struggled with complex concepts, Preston simply plumbed the minds of his teachers, absorbing their knowledge with ease. His remarkable abilities and natural aptitude for learning made him an exceptionally talented physician, quickly rising through the ranks of medical school and his early professional career.   However, Preston's gift came with a terrible price. Like many Venusians with psychic powers, he developed the infamous Curse of Venus. This affliction caused an insatiable hunger and creeping madness, treatable only by Cupidine. Without these medications, those cursed could not sleep and gradually descended into insanity, eventually craving the chemicals found in the human brain. Despite the constant struggle, Preston practiced medicine diligently, battling his urges through sheer willpower and later through self-prescribed medications.   Driven by a desire to cure the affliction once and for all, Preston became obsessed with finding a solution. He clandestinely violated patents from Starlight Pharmaceuticals, analyzing their medicines in secret and formulating what he believed was an alternative treatment. Confident in his findings, Preston gathered a group of volunteers suffering from the Curse of Venus to test his new medicine. The results were catastrophic. Within hours, every volunteer was driven irreversibly insane, rampaging through the streets of Phoebe, killing and consuming brains in a desperate bid for relief. Horrified by the devastation he had caused, Preston fled Venus, seeking refuge and redemption offworld.   In exile, Preston found work as a ship's doctor, moving from vessel to vessel in an attempt to escape his past and continue his research in secrecy. He eventually encountered Captain Liam Midas, a man whose calculating tendencies provided the cover Preston needed. Feeling that he had found a captain indifferent enough to his dark past, Preston continued his work aboard Midas's ship, hoping to one day rectify his mistakes and find a true cure for the Curse of Venus.   Now, aboard Midas's ship, Preston remains the ship's doctor, using his skills to maintain the health of the crew while secretly continuing his research into the Curse of Venus. Driven by a profound sense of guilt and a desire for redemption, Preston is determined to find a way to cure the affliction that plagues him and others like him, all while evading those who might seek retribution for his past mistakes. His quest for a cure is not only a personal journey but a desperate bid to make amends for the horrors he unleashed, and to ensure that no one else suffers the same fate.

Preston is strictly asexual. As he has occasionally had to tell Shipwreck, he sees enough of peoples' insides for work, it doesn't interest him for play.

Preston went to the finest schools of Venus in pursuit of his craft as a doctor.

Dr. Kidd works as the on board doctor on the LFS Derelict and serves as the crew's science officer for missions that require one.

Preston has extreme PTSD from the incident on Pheobe, and cannot live with himself until he atones.

Dr. Kidd will never pass up an opportunity to learn more about the human mind and body.

Dr. Kidd is consumed with a desire to atone for his past failures by curing the Curse of Venus once and for all.
