Warp Technology
Warp Technology is composed of three separate technologies. Stagiaires Drives use Quantum Entanglement to destroy and reassemble a ship in another location. Ironically the safest kind, it was used for civilian travel as its destination and range were limited.
Capricorn Drives use Quantum Singularities to punch through Space Time to create wormholes. These Wormholes can then be directed anywhere in the know universe. It is a slower warp drive due to the time needed to charge the singularity. It is also limited by the natural fluctuations in Space-Time, meaning that Warp Routes and natural barriers still limit the range of these drives. The most powerful drives, including the one onboard the Talon, can allow a ship to travel instantaneously across lightyears.
Gemini drives create portals to the Gemini realm, a parallel universe where dark energy is almost non-existent. This means that travelling a small distance in the Gemini Realm means travelling a large distance in the Real Universe. The failure of this drive is the most dangerous, and causes Gemini matter to enter the real universe. This devastating explosion can create a volatile black hole. Gemini drives with intentional failures are used for Warp Bombs and Missiles.
Utility
Warp Technology was used primarily as a tool to travel between stars. It is used to transport troops and supplies in the military, for trade in the commercial sector, and basic transportation for many civilians.
Misuses of Warp Technology include Warp Bombs, intentionally damaged Gemini Drives used to destroy enemy capital ships.
Manufacturing
The manufacture of Warp Drives includes complex power systems and navigational equipment. the massive factories of the Republic Sector were used to manufacture among others, Warp Drives in bulk. Osmium in particular is used in low grade Warp Drives, due to its extreme density making it useful for singularity creation.
Social Impact
Though not fully appreciated at first, Warp Drives became a cornerstone of interstellar human society, as it enabled instantaneous travel to other star systems. Billions left Earth and the Inner Solar System as they immigrated to various planets beyond the Solar System.
Access & Availability
By the End of the 3rd milleinum, almost all space capable human craft had warp drives installed. All military carriers and warships had drives, though most fighters relied on their carriers for warp travel. In the early stages of the Empire including well into the 4th millenium, most rival alien species had limited access to warp technology, giving humanity a massive advantage.
However, by the 37th century, most smaller alien empires with limited access to warp technology had either been destroyed or absorbed into one empire or annother. Most empires had warp technology.
Complexity
Warp Technology is some of the most complex in the Human Arsenal. It requires ingularity creators and large amounts of energy to use. Fusion Reactors or Dark Energy Harvesters are usually used to power the drives.
