Velthan Sporesalt

A pungent substance made from dried glowroot spores and mineral-rich air near the Dead Core. Recognizable by its earthy musk and faint bioluminescence. Used in food, ink, and spiritual offerings. Too much can induce hallucinations tied to ancestral memory—some crave this sensory overload.

Velthane Sporesalt is more than seasoning—it’s a living relic.

  • Composition: Crystallized spores extracted from ancient Glowroot fungi, grown only in the shadowed cauldron-winds near the Dead Core. These spores are then dried, crushed, and blended with metallic vapors drawn from venting fissures.
  • Appearance & Behavior: Looks like coarse violet-gold flakes that shimmer faintly in moonlight. When scattered into heat or moisture, they release a memory-rich vapor that lingers like whispering mist.

Uses:

  • Culinary: Added to Glowshard Stew to intensify ancestral taste profiles.
  • Inkwells: Mixed into tattoo inks to bind ancestral data with higher fidelity.
  • Rituals: Burned in braziers during Senvakar rites to “awaken” ghost-thoughts from forgotten lineages.

Excess exposure leads to:

  • Memory Looping: The inhaler relives ancestral traumas, battles, births, and even failed loves.
  • Flickering: Glyphs begin to shift uncontrollably, broadcasting thoughts to nearby Velari.
  • Blur: Some users adopt mannerisms or speech patterns of long-dead relatives.

Among Verdans, this state is called “Sporewalking”, and deliberate exposure is restricted… officially.

Places to find it:

  • Dustmirror Market: A black-market bazaar in Orraspire where raw Sporesalt bricks are burned in ceramic bowls during memory duels.
  • The Violet Stacks: Sporesalt processing towers where miners inhale traces while working. Many claim to hear the Core whisper during shifts.
