System for Multi-Classing into Ranger

1. Archery Training

Rangers are skilled marksmen, and this milestone focuses on training the player in the art of archery. Mastery of ranged combat is essential for a Ranger, and this phase will ensure that the player is proficient in using bows and other ranged weapons.

How to Complete:

• The player must seek out an archery instructor, such as a seasoned archer or a ranger, who can teach them proper techniques and form.
• This training could include daily practice sessions, archery tournaments, or personal quests to retrieve a rare bow or arrow.
• The player could undergo target practice, learning about different types of bows (longbow, shortbow, crossbow) and their strengths and weaknesses.

Completion Criteria:

• The player must become proficient in Archery (perhaps with a focus on the Longbow or Shortbow). They should also demonstrate their skill by hitting a target at various distances or completing a specific archery challenge.

2. Survivalist Training

A Ranger's knowledge of the wild and their ability to survive in it are key aspects of their identity. This milestone ensures the player has the necessary survival skills to thrive in the wilderness, even when separated from civilization.

How to Complete:

• The player must undergo Survivalist Training, learning how to track animals, forage for food, build shelter, and navigate difficult terrain.
• This could involve quests that take the player deep into the wilderness, where they must use their survival skills to overcome natural obstacles and dangers, such as harsh weather, wild animals, or rough terrain.
• The player may need to learn and practice survival techniques like starting fires, finding clean water, and identifying edible plants.

Completion Criteria:

• The player must gain proficiency in Survival and demonstrate their ability to thrive in the wilderness by completing a set of survival tasks or challenges.

3. Animal Handling (Companion)

Rangers often have a close bond with nature, particularly animals. This milestone focuses on the player’s ability to form a bond with a wild animal, which can become their loyal companion in the field.

How to Complete:

• The player must complete a quest or series of tasks to tame and bond with a wild animal, such as a wolf, hawk, or bear.
• They may need to demonstrate their skill in Animal Handling, perhaps through a series of challenges that test their patience and ability to communicate with animals, or they could have to track down and rescue a creature in need of help.
• This phase could also involve the player learning to care for and train the animal, teaching it specific tricks or commands.

Completion Criteria:

• The player must succeed in Animal Handling and form a bond with a wild animal, which will serve as their Animal Companion. This animal may accompany the player on future quests and provide useful support in combat or tracking.

4. Arrow Crafting

Rangers often craft their own arrows, using materials found in nature. This milestone focuses on the player’s ability to craft arrows and other ranged weapons, ensuring they can maintain their equipment in the wild.

How to Complete:

• The player must learn Arrow Crafting, a skill that involves finding and preparing natural materials, such as feathers, wood, and metal, to craft arrows.
• This could involve gathering resources in the wild, learning from a master bowyer or fletcher, and crafting different types of arrows (such as normal arrows, fire arrows, or poison-tipped arrows).
• The player may also need to craft special arrows as part of a quest, such as arrows to hunt a specific creature or arrows infused with magical properties.

Completion Criteria:

• The player must craft a set of Arrows (a certain number, possibly with a specific type of material). This may include proving their skill by crafting arrows that are effective against certain creatures or challenging conditions.

5. Guild Quests

Rangers are often members of specialized guilds that focus on the preservation of nature and the defense of the wild. This milestone represents the player’s integration into such a guild and their involvement in missions that further the goals of the guild.

How to Complete:

• The player must undertake quests from a Ranger Guild or similar organization. These quests will involve tasks such as protecting the forest from invaders, investigating unnatural disturbances in the wilderness, or tracking down dangerous creatures.
• The player might need to gain the trust of the guild by proving their worth in a series of quests, such as rescuing lost travelers, defending wildlife, or aiding in the exploration of dangerous territories.
• These quests will help the player build relationships with other Rangers and gain access to specialized training or equipment.

Completion Criteria:

• The player must complete a series of Guild Quests, demonstrating their commitment to the Ranger path. These quests could range from combat-focused tasks to exploration or investigative missions.

Finalizing the Multi-Classing

Once the player has completed all five milestones, they are ready to multi-class into Ranger. The player’s journey from survivalist to skilled archer and animal companion is complete, and they are now prepared to take on the unique abilities and responsibilities of a Ranger.

Completion Criteria:

• The player gains access to the Ranger class and all associated abilities, such as Favored Enemy, Natural Explorer, Hunter’s Mark, and Ranger Archetypes.

To enhance this multi-classing system, consider offering Skill Development Rewards for each milestone:

• Archery Training: Gain proficiency in Archery, with added bonuses to ranged attacks and damage.
