Cleric
System for Multi-Classing into Cleric
1. Must Have a Patron
To multi-class into Cleric, the player must form a connection with a divine Patron—either a specific god or a spiritual force that aligns with the player’s beliefs. This is the foundation of their clerical powers, as it grants them the ability to channel divine energy.
How to Complete:
- The player must choose a Patron deity or a spiritual force they will serve, such as a god of healing, justice, nature, war, or trickery.
- They must either undertake a quest, seek guidance from a high-ranking cleric of that Patron, or receive a divine sign to confirm their connection with the Patron.
- This may involve a Wisdom (Religion) or Charisma (Persuasion) check to establish a meaningful bond with the Patron.
Completion Criteria:
- The player must demonstrate they are worthy or have been chosen by the Patron.
- The Patron may offer a blessing or a sign (e.g., a divine vision or a boon) once the player proves their devotion.
2. Community Service/Guild Service
Clerics are often devoted to serving their communities and fulfilling the tenets of their faith through acts of service. The player must engage in community or guild service, demonstrating their willingness to aid others and embody their Patron’s values.
How to Complete:
- The player must complete a set amount of community service tasks, such as healing the sick, helping rebuild a town after an attack, performing rituals for the community, or serving in a local temple.
- These tasks could be assigned by the local clergy or religious figures, or they could be driven by the player's desire to help others.
- The player must perform these tasks with Charisma (Persuasion) or Wisdom (Medicine) checks to succeed.
Completion Criteria:
- The player must complete a series of community service missions (e.g., 4-5 missions), each demonstrating their dedication to their Patron and their people.
- Each completed mission earns them favor from the Patron or local clergy, bringing them closer to being able to multi-class.
3. Religious Symbol
A Cleric must carry a religious symbol, often used to channel divine power. The player must craft or obtain a religious symbol that represents their Patron and is tied to their faith.
How to Complete:
- The player must either craft a religious symbol, find one during their travels, or receive one as a gift from a high-ranking priest.
- The religious symbol could be an amulet, a holy relic, a sacred staff, or any object that represents the Patron’s power.
- The player must perform a ritual to consecrate the symbol (which could require a Religion or Arcana check) and tie it to their divine power.
Completion Criteria:
- The player must possess and consecrate the religious symbol, linking it to their Patron and making it a personal artifact of divine power.
- This symbol will be crucial in their ability to channel divine magic once they multi-class into Cleric.
4. Praying (2,000 Hours)
To connect with their Patron and earn divine favor, the player must spend a significant amount of time in prayer. This phase reflects their spiritual devotion and deepens their connection with their Patron.
How to Complete:
- The player must dedicate 2,000 hours of in-game time to prayer and meditation. This could be done in private or at a temple.
- During this time, the player must perform regular prayers, meditate on their Patron’s tenets, and engage in acts of faith (such as fasting, offering sacrifices, or studying sacred texts).
- The player must track the hours they spend in prayer, ensuring they reach the required amount.
- To maintain focus during their prayer sessions, the player may need to pass Wisdom (Religion) checks, particularly if distractions arise.
Completion Criteria:
- After spending the required 2,000 hours in prayer, the player may receive a vision, sign, or blessing from their Patron, marking their readiness to multi-class into Cleric.
- This extended devotion strengthens their bond with their Patron and prepares them for the final step of their training.
5. Book/Level up in Chantry
To finalize their training and gain access to divine magic, the player must study sacred texts or undergo spiritual training in a chantry or temple, focusing on learning divine spells, rituals, and the clerical arts.
How to Complete:
- The player must either study a religious tome or train in a chantry (a sacred temple or monastery) where Clerics are taught. This study will involve absorbing divine knowledge and learning how to channel divine magic.
- The player must either:
- Spend several weeks in study with a priest or scholar (with Intelligence (Arcana) or Wisdom (Religion) checks).
- Read and learn from an ancient text or relic, often a holy book related to the Patron.
- The player must demonstrate a Wisdom (Religion) or Intelligence (Investigation) check to prove they have learned enough to channel the divine magic properly.
Completion Criteria:
- The player must complete a study period (e.g., 1-2 months), after which they gain proficiency in the domain of magic associated with their Patron.
- Once their studies are complete, they are able to level up and take the Cleric class, unlocking the ability to cast divine spells and gain Cleric features.
Finalizing the Multi-Classing
Once the player has completed all five steps, they are ready to multi-class into Cleric. They can approach a high-ranking cleric, their Patron's temple, or the local chantry to be formally initiated into the class.
Completion Criteria:
- The player must have completed all five tasks with success, proving they have the devotion, service, and knowledge to wield divine power.
- They receive a blessing or recognition from the Patron or a high-ranking cleric, solidifying their connection and granting them the power to cast divine magic and access Cleric features.
Bonus System for Extra Depth
As with the Bardic system, you can integrate Skill Development Milestones for each task to encourage further player engagement and rewards:
- Patron: The player gains specific insights or minor divine benefits from their Patron, such as special guidance or a small blessing.
- Community Service/Guild Service: The player can receive in-game rewards such as influence in local communities or guilds, perhaps even gaining followers or clerical aides.
- Religious Symbol: The symbol could provide minor magical enhancements, such as a bonus to divine magic or temporary protection from evil forces.
- Praying: Completing this milestone grants a vision or divine gift from the Patron, which might come with boons like temporary hit points, spiritual insight, or even a divine spell as a prelude to their full Cleric training.
- Book/Level up in Chantry: During this stage, the player might gain access to rare divine spells or knowledge, or receive a special prayer or ritual from their Patron that gives them temporary powers.
