Chaos Seals

The Chaos Seals are nine clay seals created by Acacius in 23 IB from the mud of the Blood Sea, and imbued with extreme destructive power. According to Emuna (which considers the Seals one of the Sacraments) each seal when broken brings the world one step closer the Eschaton, and when all nine are broken the world will end.   Each individual seal is identical, and the order of their use is irrelevant. Two have been used, both against Toliman by Theodorian of Amalfi, triggering the Tolimanic Apocalypses, wherein some 40,000,000 people (or 75% of the population of Eirene) died in total. According to Emuna, only the Metropolitan can retrieve the seals from the Tomb of Acacias and sanction their use. The existence of two conflicting claimants to the rank of Metropolitan has complicated matters, and it is unclear if either could enter the tomb. Accordingly, it is considered highly unlikely that another Chaos Seal will ever be used, at least until the Unbroken Church is reunited.
