Sailhauler

A sailhauler is an invention of The Split House, used primarily by The War House to detain feeling ships. The device is affixed to the front of an enforcement vessel, and when activated, conjures a wind ahead of a pursued ship to blow against the front of its sails, effectively "pulling" the ship backwards.

Users must be in a medium proximity of a target to use a sailhauler, as the range is only about a quarter mile. Once activated, the device will only remain active for about one minute before needing to recharge for another ten minutes. This is frequently enough to catch up with the target, but sufficiently fast ships, or ships equipped with rowing decks are still able to outrun a sailhauler. In these instances, pursuers must remember the old adage: "Why typhoon when you can harpoon?"
