Ri'teng
Ri'teng, the land of the light elves, I am constantly in awe of every aspect of their culture - it's like nothing I've ever seenRi'teng is a sovereign country in the east of the Elven Archipelago. It has an area of 209,500 km², and is the largest island in the archipelago. Ri'teng is a Federal Monarchy. The High Elder is Kalai Clanjin, who has ruled for sixteen years and is in his second term as High Elder. The Capital and largest city of Ri'teng is Shihuang, with a population of 4,396 people. The other major cities include Clanjin (3,246) and Palzhou (2,497). Ri'teng consists of six regions: Shihuang, Clanjin, Toloran, Aarnlok, Yuinaen and Palzhou. Each region has major autonomy with devolved administrations in their capitals of the same name. Originally, the island was more divisively split into the six tribes - with no central government or freedom of movement between the tribe borders. After the unification of Ri'teng under Elder Changis Shihuang, the tribes united under the leadership of the High Elder whilst still maintaining autonomy over their lands. Ri'teng is famed for its magic. The Light Elves were the first to discover the art and as a result they have practised it to near perfection, it is considered the centre of the arcane world today. They are also well known for their art, literature and music.
Etymology
The nation was named Ri'teng at the First Council, when the elders decided on a name for the newly unified nation. In Senterren, the name translates to Land of the Light. 'Ri' is the elven word for Light, and 'teng' is the elven world for land.Structure
Ri'teng is a Federal Monarchy. Each tribe owns their region and mostly has freedom to do as they wish, but all the tribe elders must answer to the High Elder and obey his command.
The High Elder is chosen out of the six Tribe Elders. Each Elder can put themselves forward and then the Elders vote for the High Elder - but you cannot vote for yourself. In the event of a draw, a second vote takes place between those remaining. Once a High Elder is chosen, they rule for the next decade until another High Elder is elected.
History
Era of the Dragon
The Light Elves have been on Ri'teng since time immemorial. According to legend, the elves arrived in the land of Ri'teng led by six great leaders. Over time, they split into six separate tribes, with each tribe governing a separate portion of the land. It has remained more or less the same - though some tribes have expanded or shrunk from conflict with neighbouring tribes. The tribes were completely independent from each other- only interacting through various conflicts and rarely working together. Ri'teng was where Shan Ren was born, and so it was at the centre of the Extinction of the Dragons. This allowed them access to magic far before most other nations, which contributed to the development of the nation.Era of Conquest
Centuries ago, Elder Changis of the Shihuang tribe proposed a unification of the country. The other five tribes were hesitant to agree to his idea, that was until Changis mentioned that if they did not agree to a peaceful unification then he would be forced to unify the country through force. None wished to fight against the Shihaung tribe as they were at the time the only ones capable of runic magic - making them an unstoppable opponent. The tribes agreed to attempt unification and the first council was held. In the council, the constitution was set out and the governmental infrastructure was established - transforming the independent tribes into one nation. After this, the nation strived forward and became a prosperous country in the modern world. They developed their innate magical abilities and transformed their society into one of the most advanced on Tersupra. In 1265, the Light Elves declared war on their long-time enemies, the Dark Elves. Since 1203, the Light Elves had traded with the island of Ang'teng and worked with them . However, by 1265 the Light Elves had been encouraged to discriminate, fed misinformation about the Dark Elves. In an act of complete hate, the armies of Ri'teng almost made the Dark Elves an extinct race - only a tiny amount of the former population survived. In recent times, Ri'teng has continued to prosper - trading both with the Senterren Empire and the Kingdom of Aeronia. They have so far managed to repel the advanced of the Empire into the elven archipelago and hope to remain an independent nation forever.Demography and Population
Ri'teng is not very ethnically diverse, with the majority of the population being Ri'tengan Light Elves. After this, the next largest ethnic group are light elves from the smaller islands, followed by dark elves, followed by Aeronians.
A census of the population is usually taken every twenty years. It is estimated that the current population is around 4,720,000, making it the most populated island in the elven archipelago. Almost all population growth is a result of natural increase, as migration to Ri'teng is quite low - making up only a fraction of the overall population growth.

Geography
The overall area of Ri'teng is 209,500 km². The nation encompasses the largest island in the elven archipelago. The majority of the island is highland, with mountainous terrain on the west of the island. The mountain range is primarily made up of six major mountains, each with a monastery on top - these form the pilgrimage of the five pillars. The main rivers of Ri'teng all stem from the mountain range.Climate
Ri'teng has a mediterranean climate, characterised with hot, dry summers and warm, wet winters. The temperature varies little between the seasons, with temperatures between 20°C and 30°C in the summer and between 10° to 20°C in the winter.Tribal Regions
When the elves first arrived on the island, the land was split into six regions to house the six tribes that had assembled under the Elders that led the light elves to their new home. These Elders were Shihuang, Clanjin, Toloran, Aarnlok, Yuinaen and Palzhou. From their bloodline, the tribes were established, with each current monarch having an unbroken bloodline back the founding elves. The tribal borders have more or less remained the same ever since, except for the occasional movement that resulted from conflict between the tribes in the past. Since the unification, the borders have remained the same as the exact border lines were laid down in the contract signed by all tribe elders.Foreign Relations
For the most part, Ri'teng has only interacted with the other elven islands. Recently, they have begun to branch out - trading with the Eucadian kingdoms and fighting off the advances of the Senterren Empire into their lands.
Religion
Almost all of the Ri'tengans adhere to the teachings of Dawn's Light. The teachings of the Church play a major part in their lives and most attend the Temples regularly.Education
Ri'teng is home to the Arcane Colleges, a collection of magic-focused institutes that focus on a separate aspect of magic. The Colleges are hailed as the best location for magical training in the world, and would-be sorcerers and sorceresses come from all over Tersupra to learn. Outside of the arcane, there is no obligation for children to attend school. Usually, children of the upper class will attend school full-time and children of the lower classes will usually only learn basic reading, writing and arithmetic from their parents.
