Tomb Weaver

Tomb weavers are giant tarantulas with a full span (including legs) of about 3 feet across. They get their name from the hollowed out structures they form just beneath the sand, acting as pits or tombs for those unlucky enough to walk over them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Tomb weavers have hairy bodies, helping them stay light on the sand. Their bodies are mostly black and light brown, and relatively flat, making it easier for them to hide, pressed against sand and sandstone and partially covered by sand or dust.

Ecology and Habitats

Tomb weavers are primarily found burrowing near ancient Yu'Ten-Ni ruins or the various cracked rocks and mesas of the Al'Biq Desert, the more stable locations where other large creatures make their homes, or the unlucky traveler may pass by. They'll find an ideal spot and carefully dig a trench in the sand and loose stone, using webbing to reinforce the pit from collapsing back in on itself once completed to its satisfaction, weaver will use its hairy arms to delicately sweep some of the sand and loose stone onto the top of the web-covered pit, disguising it from view to a casual observer. It will then go on to make several more hidden "tombs" before pressing itself against a wall or raised area and covering itself with some of the remaining loose stone and dirt, waiting patiently for prey.
