Selling Treasure
There are a few factors which influence the price at which merchants will purchase your items:
Your ability to convince a merchant of the value of an item (represented with a diplomacy check).
Your reputation with the merchant (or in the area that you are selling).
Your knowledge of where the best place to sell an item is (represented by a society check).
The condition of the item
All 4 factors can be optimized to get the best price for your items. By default, "auto-selling" your items to the first buyer without taking time to optimize your price will result in a price of 50% of the market value of the item.
A successful diplomacy or society check with a standard DC for the item's level will each raise the price by 20% (to a maximum of 90%).
Having a total of 5 or more reputation points with the faction, merchant, or area you are selling will increase the price of the item by a flat 10%.
A critical failure on a diplomacy or society check will decrease the value of your items by 10%.
Having negative reputation with the faction, merchant, or area you are selling will decrease the value of the item by 25%
The condition of an item is first of all represented by its hitpoints. Broken or damaged items have their value reduced by 50%.
If the item is not broken or damaged, but is used, its value decreases by 25%. The Repair an Item action can be taken on a used item to restore it to its standard condition.
