Rimefang Ridge
This tectonically active and hazardous mountain range holds back the massive continental ice sheet covering the northern continent of Cryos.
Geography
Rimefang ridge is the edge of a mountain chain which is permeated by outlet glaciers, which flow into numerous waterways forming a complex system of rivers, valleys, moraines, lakes, and fjords, some of which stretch all the way through the Frostweald before draining into Aureate Bay.
From a distance, this mountain range resembles a jagged maw of frozen teeth, with ice spilling out between the cracks, hence its name.
Localized Phenomena
The tectonic activity at this plate boundary results in devestating earthquakes and volcanic activity, causing avalanches and glacial lake outburst floods, both of which can be additionally triggered by non-tectonic cryoseisms.
High speed katabatic winds with gusts of up to 300kph blow down ridge, posing a challenge for the construction of any kind of permenant infrastructure. These winds also blow across the glacial outlet waterways resulting in sudden snow squalls and blizzard conditions blowing south.
Climate
Tundra, within the artic circle and past the tree line meaning permafrost and cold dry air. This is a harsh environment.
Fauna & Flora
Flora: Shrubs, grasses, other shallow rooted plants and wildflowers.
Fauna: Polar Bear, Sabre-toothed Tiger, Mammoth, Reindeer
Rare arctic monsters which are hunted for valuable magic and alchemical components.
Natural Resources
This tundra environment contains peat bogs, which are an important source of heat and fuel for many northern communities. The peat is harvested during the warmer season when the upper layer of permafrost begins to melt, and is left out to dry all season in preparation for the winter.
Additionally, members of the white hunt have reported finding ancient ruins buried in the cryosian glacier, which has attracted the attention of enchanters, factions, and skilled adventuring parties.
Tourism
The harsh environment and geography of this location are prohibitive for large scale tourism, however, many nordic individuals seek to prove their strength and fortitude by travelling to Rimefang ridge, surviving, and returning to tell the tale. The The White Hunt welcomes anyone who manages to reach the ridge alive with respect for their strength and fortitude, and are happy to provide accomodations for a brief stay. Many people die completing this trial, and it is not for the faint of heart.
Some travel to see the Aurora Borealis, which is believed among northern communities to be the souls of powerful warriors travelling to the afterlife. It is believed that these travelling souls bestow a blessing of strength and fortitude upon any who gaze upon the Aurora, and many individuals report a sense of invigorated strength and fortitude upon returning from their trial having done so.
