Expanded Descriptions
This is just a copy of the longer description in the table so they can be all be viewed clearly. World anvil doesn't allow me to embed specific table values in an article, so this needs to be updated manually and may be out of date from the table. If this conflicts with information in the table, the information in the table is what is intended.
Reputation Levels
-100: Sworn enemy of faction: You have severely angered the faction through multiple transgressions, and they want to see you suffer. The faction will actively expend resources to try and hinder your progress, and possibly kill you depending on their nature. They will consistently denounce you to anyone who will listen. Reputation cannot be improved from this level using standard methods, and favor may need to be gained with ally factions first.
-70: Strongly disliked by faction: Faction will be hostile toward you should you try to approach or communicate with them, and will attempt to hinder your progress should you cross paths.
-40: Disliked by faction: Faction will be disinterested in any communication with you, and will actively spread word to other factions that you are not to be trusted or are otherwise incompetent, but will most likely not try to hinder your progress or react in a hostile manner to your presence.
-20: Untrusted by faction: Faction has lost their faith in you, and they would prefer to cut ties. You still have a chance to improve your reputation, but do not expect any kind of reward for doing work for this faction (aside from reputation increase), and they are hesitant to trust you with anything other than trivial and unimportant tasks.
-10: Faction is wary: Faction is wary of your existence, and places caution on dealings with you. Expect to be rewarded at a reduced rate for any work you do. Some insular factions start at this reputation level.
0: Neutral to faction: The faction has not heard of you, but is most likely interested in seeing what you have to offer and rewarding you for your work. Most factions start at this level.
+10: Faction is comfortable: You have proven your usefulness to the faction in some respect, and they are happy to give you work and possibly negotiate a slightly higher pay rate. Some outgoing or desperate factions start at this level.
+20: Trusted by Faction: You have proven not only your usefulness, but also your trust. The faction will grant you access to some of their resources, and are happy to pay you a bonus for your work given your proven history.
+40: Liked by Faction: The faction shows preference in working with you, and will consistently pay a premium for your proven trust and quality of service. They offer important, high value work at a premium price whenever you cross paths, and will actively spread word to other factions that you are trustworthy and reliable. They offer access to many of their resources, including the ability to contract their members for custom work.
+70: Loved by Faction: The faction will now actively seek you out to complete its most important and confidential work. They grant access to most of their resources, and allow you to hire their members at a discounted price. Upon crossing paths, members of this faction will happily aid your progress in whatever way they reasonably can.
+100: Public ally of faction: The faction publicly recognizes you as important figures, and places a high value on your allyship. At this point, you have access to any of the factions resources, and the faction will actively seek to aid you in whatever ways they can. They value your consultation and insight into their decision making process, and may even appoint you as high ranking members with decision making authority. You are recognised instantly by anyone who is part of the faction, and are granted an unspoken "free pass" on your first transgression against the faction. You may request aid in the form of hirelings at will and free of charge, and the faction will additionally provide you regularly with resources as a tribute, most often in the form of GP.
Reputation Gains
Small favour: This is a somewhat trivial act that demonstrates good faith, but do not exepct to get rewarded much (if anything) for these favors.
Work contract: This requires some intiative, investigation and problem solving on your part, and demonstrates your competence and trustworthiness. You can expect to be rewarded well for this work.
Major favour: This is a major action which substantially alters something in the status quo to benefit the faction. For example, destroying the storehouses and resources of an opposing faction to the extend that they are effectively eliminated as a rival. You may or may not be rewarded for this work, and it is generally something that is not formally requested of you in a contract.
Major contractual advancement of the factions agenda: This is a major contracted operation which substantially alters the status quo, and usually involves a large scale multi-step operation, but could possibly be broken into smaller sub-contracts. You can expect to be rewarded very well for this work.
Reputation Losses
Reputation loss generally occurs any time you upset a faction.
Minor offence: This action does not usually hurt the faction, but certainly makes you look bad in their eyes. Examples are insult, petty theft, obscene conduct.
Denouncing a faction: Telling another faction about the disfavourable conduct or nature of a faction, with evidence to support your claims. Without evidence, this action is only considered as an insult. This may also gain you reputation with the faction you are speaking to, depending on their nature and values. Note this decrease only takes effect if the denounced faction learns of your denouncement (but word travels fast, and they generally do).
Major theft: Stealing a high value item. The value could be monetary, strategic, sentimental, or any other reason that losing the item might significantly hinder the faction's agenda.
Destruction or assassination: The assassination of any faction member, or the destruction of any of their assets or resources.
Minor failure of requested work: Any failure of a contract or favour, which does not worsen the factions position, but generally shows your incompetence or unreliability. For example, not delivering a message on time.
Major failure of requested work: Any failure of a contract or favour which winds up leaving the faction in a worse position. For example, delivering a message to the wrong person, or causing major civilian casualties in a violent encounter. Some factions may be more forgiving and willing to accept a rationale for the cause of the failure.
Sabotage of faction: Actively using inside information to hinder the faction's agenda. For example, telling a rival faction of sabotage plans allowing them to react. This will usually result in major reputation gains with any rival factions benefited by this information.
Working for a rival faction: Any work done to advance the agenda of a rival faction.
