Renaissance

As cruel as Id can be, there is a single fiber of silver lining, discovered by accident and quite recently by the hunter and scientist Luca Doppel. Doppel was a leading scientist in the study of captured remnants to discover more efficient forms of termination until he was provided with a unique sample. This sample named was completely docile unlike the other samples who were very dangerous and difficult to handle. Doppel took an interest to it and preformed a few special tests and experiments before having the breakthrough of the century. Doppel observed that it has been demonstrating very human-like or sentient traits, akin to a child, having been observed to display emotions and thoughts, and most importantly Luca Doppel's unique ability classified him as an empath, and after deciding to attempt to use his ability on Sylvester which should be impossible for Ids lack emotion or mind, he learned that this remnant had something many others Id lacked, a degree of mental coherence.
The Renaissance Project
This discovery lead to the development of the renaissance project, dedicated to further study on This particular remnant. Deep study eventually found who was thought to be missing person this remnant initially was, and through various methods that essentially retaught this identity to this remnant, their mental coherence steadily increased. A breakthrough occurred when the remnant manifested a core, and eventually, a human body which the remnant inhabited. This remnant, named Sylvester, was at a glance indifferentiable from any other etherious person, having an ability and a core. The only way to truly differentiate them was through testing, or witnessing the certain qualities a normal etherious do not have.   Sylvester did not need to eat, or drink, or sleep, or even breath. Their Id composition making these acts unnecessary for sustenance, but soon learned was necessary for something else. Doppel learned that the key to Sylverster's maintenance was their perception of them as a person, the coherence of thought that he identified in them actually being coherence of identity, any dips in that perception causing Sylvester to suffered from relapses into a state closer to what they were prior to the project. Eating, sleeping, leisure, amusement, even the sensation of pain all contribute to a person's sense of being a person, thus these things and many other such actions remained imperative, now simply for a different reason.     Doppel attempted to do this with other remnants who've been contained, but he never managed to find another, noting that the remnant who originated this project was already found with this mental coherence and remaining shred of humanity, an aspect missing from all of the other remnants he attempted to return to their former selves.   Doppel continued his studies and dubbed this phenomena and those affected by it, "Renaissance", individuals whose sense-of-self persisted even after becoming a remnant. Less than 2% of the population have been documented to have this condition, and it is certain that many fly under the radar.
