Great Eastern Corridor

The Great Eastern Corridor is one of two rift valleys stretching north to south along the entirty of the Dendralin continent, separating the Darkwood from the remainder of the continent.

Geography

The Great Eastern Corridor features a number of different geographic regions across its length. At its northern mouth, the valley opens up to a frosty tundra, featuring jagged lowlands with sparse areas of taiga forest. The valley quickly narrows with the northland mountains to the west, and the Darkwood to the east, at which point the valley floor becomes far more rocky, though some vegtation is able to thrive thanks to the meltwater streams that run northward through the area.   The watershed turns southward for the meltwater along the same latitude as the moutain ridge to the west. This portion of the valley starts to see much more tall grasses, along with some scrub brush in areas. Once the rift opens up into the Fertile Valley, lush prairie grasses and agricultural land dominated the soft rolling terrain as far as the eye can see. Even the valley walls are green in this region. This primary watershed leads into the mighty Eldertide River, seaparting from its basin in the far south - the Black Swamp. The swamp is said to be a cursed place, home to a massive peet deposit in the boggy wetland, dotted with cypress trees and reeds. The look and smell of decomposition everywhere in the swamp makes it difficult to define finer points in the geography.

Localized Phenomena

The narrow nature of the valley seems to adjust local air patterns, as freezing cold air is often felt down to the mouth of the Fertile Valley as late as Meadowglow every year. This cold air stream seems to attract magic and metaphysical activity that is connected to the cold, as wraiths, frost sprites, and even ice trolls have been encountered by the frogs at Frostfall Watch. Coupled with the fact that no adventuring party that has ever ventured more than a day or two north into the narrows has ever returned, the prevailing belief is that dark energies inhabit the area.

Ooo intriguing. I am so curious about why no adventurers have ever returned.

Keep an eye out for the Northlands to come out sometime in next year for that answer!
