Protectorate of Garol
The Protectorate of Garol, also known as the Kingdom of Garol, was an dependent Valonian protectorate under the regime of Irgia Republic. The largest cities were Garolisone and Irisone, the capital city. Unlike Erkin, the republic allowed to keep their own form of government thanks to a good relationship of them and the former nation they came from.
Structure
The government worked much like the imitated Valonian system but in a smaller scale; The king of Garol and the advisors of two or three various professions appointed by election, ruled the country. The supervisers also existed, but not as powerful as the Valonian variant.
The whole system was under the protection of Irgia Republic, meaning they had been granted a seat in the council of The Centralium, the same seat as the Erkin. Because it was smaller, the republic gave them a freedom to self-govern, making them a monarchy as intended. The only tributes to maintain the peace were quarried stones and woods.
History
Origin
In 30 BVE, by the time the Kingdom of Valonia lost the Krin-Valonian war, people had already decided to flee the country to prevent themselves from being enslaved the incoming Krin force. Most citizens packed their belongings and sailed out of the Dirwen River to outside worlds. However, there were some who chose to cross the river and climbed across the quarrying mountain to enter the territories of the Irgia Republic.
I still remember seeing the smoke coming out of my house from this high
The republic welcomed them as a good neighbor. They gave materials for the immigrants to build their own city. It was called Neo Valone at first but changed to Irisone after the leader of the the first sacked, Angus Iris. Irisone were being seen as one of the Irgian settlements, with the Irgian governer involved and oversaw.
The good news arrived 15 years later with the the Valone's liberated. Some of them chose to go back to their real home, whereas the rest continued to form their own legacies in this foreign land - like making a new kingdom.
Since they were too small to form an army to defend, the only things that had were diplomats to speak and artisans to make goods. It was a years-long progress that must beared fruits or else turned to a stub. In 10 BVE, the republic eventually gave the immigrants a seat in the Irgia council as a political protection, which the king accepted. Although they had a simillar position as the Erkin, at least their hopes and dreams would've not burned down too quick.
In 2 VE, the town of Garolisone was formed at the border close to the republic, defining their terrotories.
Late Era
The protectorate thirved as expected. More people migrated into places for exquisite artisans and various inventions - mostly Irgs. The influence of Irg inferrence the exisiting of themselves, even made it to the official flag. It all changed in 50 VE when they joined the swaped empire after the faithful bombing over the royal wedding of both nations, to beat the republic together as the Valonians.
Disbandment
After the victory over the Second Channel War, the treaty made by all opposers, which was to cede more land from the Erkin and Irgia to them while also get rid of Irgian officers. This dissolved Garolian's protectorate status and became the true kingdom.
Demography and Population
It was hard to tell if Garol belonged to the Valonians or not. The population was somewhat between Irg and Valonian.
Military
The military was quite small and new compared to the experienced Erkin and traditional Irgia. However, they did not have to worry about those armies walking around freely in their tiny little kingdom.
Technological Level
Some of technology from Valonian was brought by the first immigrants, such as mass-production management, percise measuring tools, and stone-based architecture.
Foreign Relations
Their bordered shared with the Irgia Republic, Protectorate of Erkin, and if counting the other side - Valonia Empire. However, the different politics and autonomies between Erkin and Garol seemed not good enough to form a good bond. They were fighting against themselves often - usually during sports competitions rather than in skrimish.
Agriculture & Industry
Much like Valonia, quarrying was one of the Garol's main industries, on the same mountain the Valonia did. however, the quantity was uncomparable.
Trade & Transport
The Garol was surrounded by the high mountains, only left the east opened to the Sarrim River beside the Gate Lowland, but having no connection to the main road. Without caravans, the Sarrim river was only the best way for any big goods to be traded.
