Bael Lyceum
The Bael Lyceum is the largest and last surviving educational institution from the Turathi Empire. Its claim to fame includes the largest and most well kept archives in all of the ancient and modern world. For nearly 2000 years, the Bael Lyceum has been left alone to conduct its affairs in peace, and only up until recent memory has the Lyceum, as a whole, ever played more than an incidental role in the major events of its geopolitical neighbors.
The Bael Lyceum is one semi-independent campus nestled in the small town of Remar near the edge of Euremyer and Kallistratos. Remar is hardly a large town, and most of the population are employed in a collection of jobs that help support and service the Lyceum. While their are fewer blacksmiths and weavers, one is likely to find more than a few tanners and book binders. Besides crafting supplies for much of the Lyceums use, Remar collects a small amount of entertainers, and Inns for foreign travellers.
Structure
The Lyceum’s Administration is presently composed of nearly over two dozen masters, spread amongst the Colleges and the Library. Most live on Campus, in the Master’s Hall, and rarely involve themselves in the affairs of either the town of Remar, or the wider politics of the Region. Beneath the Master, there may be one or more adepts, which are senior apprentices, and are often tasked with ancillary administration roles delegated by the master. Apprentices are graduated students that have chose to remain at the College, and often serve as the primary staff for all major functions of the College, and University as a whole. Both apprenticies and adepts may have secondary titles denoting their roles or assignments on the campus, such as Apports, Monitors, or Graphs.
Finally, the students compose the remainder of temporary residents on campus, often from around Turath, and beyond. Many people come simply to earn a letter of evidence of their expertise, before returning to their homes to pursue other ends. Only a small fraction of those graduates choose to remain at the Lyceum to continue their education and serve the institution in turn.
Graph
A Graph is an apprentice (a graduated student), who serves as an 'on-demand' tutor of sorts for the university. When a person of influence needs information, but doesn't want to hire a permanent scholar or academic adviser, they can petition the Lyceum for a Graph for a short period of time. Graphs are trained to be able to absorb and catalogue vasts amount of information at a time into their memory. A client will often have an area of interest with their request, and a Graph will take a month or two to prepare before venturing out to the client's location. A Graph receives an agreed upon stipend from the client, and after their charter is complete, an additional payment is made, which is returned to the Lyceum in turn. Oftentimes, a Graph may impress a client, who may hire them as a permanent adviser, so many would be apprentices often covet the opportunity to become a Graph in the hopes of earning the patronage of a wealthy noble, merchant, or diplomat.Assets
The Actual Lyceum Campus is a composed of a suite of buildings that organize the institutions operations. Among the various buildings include the Vaults, Masters’ Hall, The Amphitheatre, Slate Hall, Cradles, Infirmary, and the Craftworks.
History
While the Lyceum functions as an educational institution, its primary purpose has always been regarded as a repository for knowledge. Within the Lyceum operate four institutions: Numerius, Corvenius, and Bael Colleges and the Exalted Library. The Numerius College is the oldest, and focuses on history and statecraft. It was founded soon after the Lyceum's construction as an outgrowth of scholars interested in studying the records collect. Corvenius College, founded after the 26th Emperor, specializes in biological and physical studies. During a brief time of golden peace within the empire, Corvenius college was the hope of the emperor of being the keystone for a new golden age, though she would die before seeing this vision realized.
Finally, Bael college focuses on Mystical Studies. Operating in secret for nearly 40 years prior, Bael college was born from a covert order within the Lyceum with traditions dating back centuries before. Only in [DATE NEEDED] were those traditions codified, and a college official formed. Dedicated to the study and education of magic and mysticism, Bael college consists of a small group of masters and apprentices with knowledge on a variety of both arcane and divine knowledge. This is not to say other colleges didn’t study magic either, but theirs was only an incidental focus, while BLANK college instructed its students with a single-mindedness on the topic.
Prior to the founding of Bael College, the Bael Lyceum was simply known as 'the Lyceum'. Not until the College was formed officially, and its reputation was made known, was the name of the institution as a whole affirmed in the wider populations and territories.
