Mana Organs
Causes
Organs can become mana through an overconsumption of food created by mana, being hit with too many attack spells, or even simply using too many spells within a short time. The most common cause is food made of mana. The overconsumption of mana is usually due to desperation, not incompetence or carelessness.
Symptoms
Those with mana organs cannot consume normal food, breathe normal air, process normal water, et cetera without getting sick. In addition, those with mana organs can become obsessed with magic.
Treatment
There is no treatment; the only thing that keeps the afflicted intact is consuming the mana versions of normal things, of which can slowly rot the person more.
Prognosis
As the person's organs become mana, they will lose the ability to consume non-mana items. Over time, if they create the mana items themself, they will slowly rot in a sort of magical starvation. If they don't die first (only achieved if another creates mana sustenance for them), the affliction will spread beyond the original organ to other organs, muscles, bones, skin, et cetera. Once the afflicted is completely made of mana, they will fizzle away to become part of the magic system in the Earth. It nurtures the world but kills the afflicted.
Affected Groups
Wizards are most commonly affected, but non-wizards have been afflicted too. Wizards are more resistant to getting mana organs.
Hosts & Carriers
All magic can create this condition, but crystallized magic, commonly created when creating food, is the most potent thing that creates this condition.
Prevention
Consumption, usage, and other exposure to magic should be limited. If it cannot be limited to a sufficient degree, an attempt should be made to supplement with non-magical items. Prolonged exposure will ultimately lead to mana organs.
History
Mana organs were first recorded in the first wizard before magic exposure was taken into consideration. There have never been any massive outbreaks, only small spikes in wartime, decimating armies.
Cultural Reception
People pity yet respect those with mana organs. If a person purposely turned their organs to mana and can be proven to have done so, they will be shamed.
