Truth March

The popular name given to the public riots and protests that swept Tantalus on 29.5.5011. It was mostly over by 30.5.5011, although unrest lingered for several more days.   The Truth March was preceded by a leak of military survey data that showed a massive Raider (Ork) fleet heading directly for Tantalus along the Sleeper route (most often called The Sleeper Fleet, or The Second Ork Fleet). With the Ithacan Navy already fighting a very public war against a massive Raider fleet in the opposite direction at Amphion Point (most often called the Amphion Fleet, or Amphion Blockade), this meant that Tantalus and it's 30million+ residents would be entirely undefended.   The Assembly Council put on a very public press conference, showing that the Raider threat was much smaller than the leak suggested and that a Navy fleet was already en-route to intercept. Citizens who were skilled with data analysis were rapidly able to prove that the leak was authentic and the Assembly Councils data was not.   Agitators in the community encouraged people to protest and demand transparency and, if necessary, a regime change to prepare Tantalus properly to defend against the Raiders. This led to the Truth March, and soon after, the declaration of Martial Law and the dissolution of the Assembly Council.

Criticism of the Truth March

Some (anonymous) commentators have suggested that the Truth March was not a spontaneous outpouring of public opinion. They point to how there was a 'perfect storm' of events that came together to topple a government that stood for a hundred years almost overnight.   Some have claimed it was a form of madness that swept the station.
