The Charybdis Graveyard
During the great war the heavily populated Aegean asteroids were completely devastated in the famous Battle of the Outer Reaches. The remains of this vast and ancient civilisation became what is now known as the Charybdis Graveyard, perched on the edge of the dangerous Scylla Reef.
The Graveyard consists of asteroid debris, starships, and space stations. All that was part of the mighty Minoan kingdom was lost along with billions of lives in a battle that raged for decades.
Local legends say that the Minoan royal family turned an experimental weapon on the attacking Raider fleets that misfired and destroyed the Aegean asteroids along with both fleets, and created the Scylla Reef all at once. Official history states that the Aegean asteroids were destroyed by the enemy fleet, which was in turn destroyed by the pyrrhic sacrifice of the Prime fleet, and later the ruins fell into the edges of the Reef.
Today the Charybdis Graveyard is a dangerous, mysterious region of space many millions of kilometres across. The ever-changing environment is jostled by gravity tides from the Reef, and the impacts of ancient wrecks against each other is continually creating new hazards.
Over the centuries scavengers from Tantalus and raiders operating from hidden bases in the Graveyard have pillaged the most accessible wrecks, meaning that every year the pirates push further outwards, and the scavengers push further inwards. Recently there have been more incidents of scavenger ships going missing, and pirates have been reported even outside the Graveyard in numbers not seen since the League's initial cleansing.
