Tantalus Transit System
Tantalus is a vast and complex country-in-space and as such it relies on a huge and varied network of transport systems to allow citizens (and goods) to travel to where they need to be. Each district is linked together by the monorail network.
Monorail Network
The monorail network is a vital part of the public transit system, but it also helps move goods and cargo in a less-known commercial and industrial network. There are hundreds of public monorail stops throughout Tantalus that link many of the major districts . The Monorail system itself can carry many thousands of people per minute and as many as five hundred trains are moving along the system at busy times. Access to the Monorail stations are restricted by security checkpoints and automated ticket-booths that require scanning of a wristcomm to take payment and verify the citizenship status of the traveller. This also allows the automated system to track passenger load and adjust the network routing accordingly.Transit tubes
Transit tubes are essentially shorter, smaller monorail systems that link a limited number of destinations together for easy access. These are often erroneously called elevators or lifts, since they function in essentially the same way and are sometimes indistinguishable to the layman.Lift/Elevator systems
Tantalus is larger vertically than it is horizontally, so often citizens need to travel up or down levels to get where they're going. Simple lifts for short transits are commonplace.Roadways
Roads are uncommon in Tantalus as a general rule, although in the industrial levels, particularly the older ones there are very wide roadways that were used by early mining vehicles. Similarly roadways and autocarriages or gravcars are more frequently seen in active mining areas, industrial sectors and developing areas since the usual transit networks are not present.Thoroughfares/Footpaths
Most of Tantalus has many paths, streets and walkways for foot-traffic. It is the most common method of travelling short distances.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
