Elder Moss

A stretch of old-growth forest ranges lining the lower half of Meridian to across the marshlands of Chimera (the latter half towards Chimera can also be referred to as the Mire.
  The forest resides mostly within Outlander territories. However, despite this, hardly any civilized Outlander communities and colonies live within the Old-Growth forest.
  The mire aspect (referring to the marsh bogs and swamps) often executes an intense toxic swamp gas released by the decomposition of the swamp and marsh algae, rendering the bulk of the Mire unlivable. The forest aspect of the Old-Growth is also speculated to have hostile fauna (mostly large vines known to act serpent-like and coil around other organic victims and exudes an enzyme liquid that allows the vines to dissolve other organics into liquid to be devoured for nutrition by the tree).
  Despite the actual inhospitable nature of the Old-Growth, some humanoid creatures are sighted to live within it. These humanoid creatures are said to have once been normal people, but their extended stay in the Old-Growth, led to mutations and corruptions of the people's physical forms and possibly mental capacities (the latter of which may stem mostly from the isolating lives the mutants live outcasted from the rest of society). It is also possible that these corrupted humans also don't require other human aspects (sleep, food, and such, they do, however, display a social-like nature as humans, craving companions).
  It is also possible these were some descendants of previous iterations of Moss Kings, such that with their ancestors' past, they are more drawn to the Old-Growth forest and are more likely to be corrupted by the forest.
