Orlok
Tradition states that Orlok was born to the powerful Acamantis tribe, nobles of Sofia. Tradition holds his mother dreamed she was carrying a lion while pregnant with him. One interpretation of the dream treats the lion as a traditional symbol of greatness, but the story may also allude to the unusually large size of Orlok's skull, which became a popular target of contemporary comedians (who called him "Squill-head", after the squill or sea-onion).
Orlok was Chief Strategist of Sofia prior to the Hellas War, during a time the city remembers as it's Golden Age. When the Areopagus forced it's puppets to antagonize Lacodaemon, Orlok planned to delay warfare until Lacodaemon wore itself out and came to the negotiation table but plague hit, slaying Orlok and placing these forces under the Areopagus.
Orlok had not died of plague as reported but fell to vampirism, rising as a vrykolakas. This transformation was discovered by the alchemist Hermas before it was complete, and Hermas was able to enrich himself by brokering potions of longevity distilled from Orlok’s blood. Imprisoned beneath the Parthenon, Orlok waxed stronger as it aged, it's mind returning from the ravaged state brought by it's transformation. It was no longer the brilliant man of it's lifetime but a cunning predator desperate for it's freedom. It's blood, so hotly pursued by the politicians of Sofia, is binding those who drink it to it's source.
Though Orlok is currently the prisoner of Kritias and Hermas, it will not remain so long...
