Magic Field
From the coast of the very same territory as Evil Lake one might behold on days which might constitute as a "clear day" on foggy marshy Vramcharp peeping out from the clumped hills the mysterious fog-covered tableland known tersely as the Magic Field. Its vicinity is not difficult to reach for it overlaps with a much lower-lying plateau known as Hoary Step, which is particularly frosty at most parts of the year, given its altitude.
The inhabitants of Hoary Step are much like their lowlands cousins, save for the understandable propensity to wear more layers of clothing, and the fact that they never approach the Magic Field or allow their flocks of cattle to graze anywhere near it. On frostier winters they will allow the delicate grass of Hoary Step to get chewed sparse and as consequence guzzle watery milk and bland cheese, while the grass of the Magic Field grows verdant and succulent without the presence of a single bovine - All because a fading pictogram engraved on a mossy old menhir demands that they leave it be.
Why? Superstition may be your first answer, o reader, but in the astounding worlds of the Ternate Lanterns, what seems to be superstition oft bears with it some (pseudo)scientific truth! The skin of reality wears threadbare around Magic Field, and strange things occur - strange enough to frighten a bunch of rustic folk into keeping a respectable distance from it, and strange enough to rouse the insatiable curiosity of the ethics-disregarding scientists of Zhomad-Hur!
Things from other planets, if not other universes and dimensions have temporarily manifested here, in the form of what the inhabitants of Hoary Step deem apparitions or, at worst, demons! There seems to be some sort of extreme spatial anomaly which fluctuates with intensity and phases through the bounds of realspace on occasions as outer-dimensional powers dictate. That or demons. Whatever those white-coated city slickers are doing on Magic Field, we best not get involved with their wacky plans to construct what they call a "Warp Station" up there. We just hope it doesn't spoil the milk.
Geography
Magic Field is situated atop a very lofty plateau, which is connected to a lower plateau named Hoary Step. These are situated among rugged hill-country and covered with thick grasses which are very filling for cattle. Also the soil is quite poor and inadequate for farming. The terrain atop the plateau is quite flat but there are a few rock faces here and there, though there aren't outcrops or steep inclinations, neither are there waterways. There is an odd chill in the air and clouds above Magic Field tend to hover around it instead of hover over it. Most visitors to Magic Field are prone to smell something that differs from the bovine manure of Hoary Step. Were it not for that quality and the inter-dimensional instabilities of the Field, then it would perhaps be the most unremarkable locale I had ever written about. In fact, if it were not for that fact I would have not thought of it.
