Basic Information

Anatomy

The inhabitants of Jhaeloe’s lowest echelon, which consists of the freezing leaden core of the planet compressed beneath thousands of leagues of oppressive air, are unlike the other two in that they are flightless. They do not possess monstrous leathern wings with which they scour the skies in hefty bounds, nor are their veins laced with countless levium-vapour bladders that make them buoyant. For the dwellers of the leaden core crawl beneath a sky in which the peoples of the planet lead carefree lives of freedom and gaiety while they live off the scraps of their labour, for they cannot fly. Their skin is thick and rubbery to shield against the gelid gales. Their heads and brows slope forward. Double rows of curving, chipped fangs protrude from the purplish gums of bottom-feeding jaws. Emaciated, grotesquely elongated arms terminate in jagged, filthy claws that drip with death-ichor. Shrivelled, flabby stomachs distend. Their eyes, bloodshot and pus-dripping, are arranged vertically. Bile-burned lips and jowls hang limp like fleshy encumbrances. Their lower halves are no better.   Obviously, a flimsy pair of human legs would not retain their integrity under such crushing pressure. In stark contrast to their starved humanoid upper halves whose warty skins sag and droop; the hindquarters of these folk ambulate upon the bodies of corpulent caterpillars whose bloated bellies are on the verge of bursting. It stretches to the very brim, stuffed with carrion churning in chyme. The ichor which seeps between wrinkly folds is of such vileness it sears the eyes as well as the nose. They ease along a nightmarish hellscape of molten lead and sulphur at an inchworm’s pace if said inchworm was the size of a rhinoceros. Their stubby pewter “legs” do naught but dig into the earth. Tracking them is easy, for it is hard to miss a meandering trail of repulsive oily fluid flanked by conical holes, about two cubits wide, at irregular intervals. As distasteful as it may seem, smearing one’s own bare skin with said oil will surely ward off any potential predatorial or romantic advances. The fortunate excreters of said fluid have no competitors and no predators, absolutely, whatsoever. Nothing on Planet Jhaeloe can wrench the scavenged cadavers, which often plummet from three dozen score leagues or more, from their maws. Apart from other members of their species.

Genetics and Reproduction

Females lay their eggs in rotting scavenged corpses and wait for a male to come and fertilize them. Hence a larvae begins to form, and then the egg finally hatches when 2 months have come to pass.

Ecology and Habitats

The lowest layer of Jhaeloe, the leaden core, the pressurized cold hellscape known as Qornoom.

Dietary Needs and Habits

These creatures are exclusively scavengers, they rely on dead bodies that have fallen from the skies, and rely on whatever is slain or dead that falls out of their layer and descends as a plummeting cadaver into their solid domain. Then they rip 'n' tear, and gnaw on every bone til there is nothing left. Their constuition is extremely good and perhaps nothing in the world can give them food poisoning.
