How sasquatches got to the Pankake Isles

Summary

One day, a sasquatch couple was walking down the beach. They heard a rumbling, and then they felt the earth shake below them. The beach was low and flat, and high ground was far away. When the tsunami came, they thought they were going to die. They were sucked out into the sea, and found themselves upon a debris raft. Next thing they knew, they were in the Pankake Islands. They had lots, and lots, and lots of kids. Their descendants are the Simihamla.

Historical Basis

There was a very powerful earthquake in the North sea caused by an offshore landslide. The resulting tsunami was so large that it made its way to the North and Baltic seas. A western Russian tribe of sasquatches (decended from the bigfeet of Siberia) was impacted.

Spread

The legend is known only to the Niadlic, Mermish, and Sasquatch peoples.

Variations & Mutation

The exact time frame for the myth is not known, along with the details. No one can agree whether the sasquatches built a raft to PURPOSEFULLY travel on the tsunami, or if it was an accident. The exact number of sasquatches is also up for debate. Some say 2, some say as many as 10.

Cultural Reception

*it's a great party story*

In Literature

A Niadlic scholar wrote an epic about it once. It is the most widely accepted story, as he interviewed several different Bigfoot, and the Mermaid Queen Aquista, who remembered the tsunami.
