Tor
The Tors of Tentandia are large, circular structures which cover the realm once ruled by the First Empire. These structures vary in size but are all constructed of heavy, black stone. Each Tor shares a basic design and form making them easy to identify across the realm. In the current period many Tors are used for different purposes throughout the realm, including serving as town halls, barracks, merchant houses, religious centers, fortifications, bulwarks, and diplomatic meetinghouses. Other Tors have been destroyed in prior conflicts, lost to the ravages of time, or co-opted for more nefarious purposes. The exact number of Tors constructed is unknown, as they were built seemingly throughout Tentandia in all manner of locations, and more seem to be found as time marches on. Given this fact, the exact number of extant Tors is incalculable.
Unlike other fortification structures of the First Empire, Tors typically are not associated with other structures or defensive works. In fact, it is unknown if these structures were intended to serve a major defensive purpose despite their martial design. However, when Tors are located around other buildings and structures, they are often in the middle of a series of fortifications and defenses, such as the Torfel in Salamis or the Ebon Tower of Denevrod. As a consequence, there is some debate as to whether or not the Tors were meant to be cultural or religious buildings rather than military installations. This being said, each Tor was outfitted with defensive ramparts, larders for long-term food storage, and varying garrisons of troops, which indicate they held some strategic value to the First Empire.
The Seven and the Tors of Tentandia
The Tors of Tentandia have been tacit observers to many of the exploits of the Seven. The Seven have encountered, used, or investigated Tors in the following locations: Wyndfleot, Jian Ortheiad, Salamis, the Dark Woods, Denevrod, Last Haven, the Tor of Radagos in the Tuath Coille (northern woods ruled by the elves), the Rookery, and Snowtop Tower. These structures have yielded clues about the region they are in and belie often a deeper history of Tentandia when investigated.
