The Order of the Winter Wolf

The Order of the Winter Wolf is a military order of knights and lupine guardians of the land. It is headquartered in the eastern Highcrown Mountains region of the Mendi Mountains, with its main fortress keep being located on Snow Wolf Peak. The Order of the Winter Wolf was founded during the interregnum period of Tentandian history, a short time after the fall of the First Empire. The Order of the Winter Wolf was founded by these guardians of the Mountain Elves to protect people from external threats, but has since become a more established and external facing knightly order. They currently do not operate far from the northern reaches of the Mendi Mountains, but are an active faction in the northlands of Tentandia.   The Order of the White Wolf was originally founded by individuals from the loose coalition of Mountain Elf tribes in the region who had banded together to repel a great invasion of raiders from beyond the North Sea. Seeking aid in their desperate defense, the founders of the Order sought aid and guidance from the spirits of the mountains. Marching deep into the mountains they came upon the sacred grove of the Ashen Wolf, where they offered an allegiance between elf and wolf for the mutual benefit of all who dwelled in the Highcrown Mountains. With this act, the Great Wolves and the Mountain Elves of the Highcrown Mountains repelled the invaders and formed a bond of solidarity which has lasted through to the present day. Until relatively recently the Order of the Winter Wolf cloistered itself from the outside world, accepting only Mountain Elves from the Highcrown Tribes into its ranks. However, the Order opened its doors to any seeking the path of the protector and retributor.   To join the Order, any seekers must be deemed worthy by deeds of arms or recommendation of their peers. The process of attunement in the Order is unknown, as are much of the goings on of the Order.  However, what is known for certain is that the members of the Order seem to have a deep and unspoken bond with the Great Wolves from whom their Order's name comes.
