Vodane
Human Subrace
"They would find that the sea, so quickly widening at the center of Tenegrim, would offer them a life unled. No longer tempted to find salvation in a steady home, the Vodane would become the Keeper's wanderers."
About
Those who call themselves the Vodane are wanderers and adventurers that can be found throughout Tenegrim. With the innate desire to explore the beauty of the world, they have taken to the sea or the land in many variations. Versatile and capable of taking up trades and languages as they go, they are the most adaptable of the humans. Finding joy in their life and establishing new cities, kingdoms and clans wherever the sea takes them, the most common Vodane are found somewhere near a shoreline or the Core Sea rivers.Origin Story
Upon the exodus of their Creator, those that would soon be known as the Vodane took to the rivers and the opening sea to try and find a way north. Unlike the Reginvithin who harrowed the northern elements and threats, the Vodane made a home in the crevices of rivers and land around the sea while turning to the waters and earth for sustenance. When asked who they were, it was a simple word that became their identifier. Vodane; Free Spirit. This became synonymous with those who would settle much of the core of Tenegrim. Kingdoms would rise and cities would develop with the ever conscious ideal of ever onward and upward.Attributes
The Vodane are a study in the variety of human features and beauty. From dark skin to pale white, blue eyes to the darkest brown. They vary heavily throughout their regions and adopt the ideals that their race is less of an actual bloodline and more of an accepted ethnicity. Open minded and adventurous, the Vodane are a balance of finding trouble and creating great things throughout their generations. Their lives are shorter than most mortals, but the amount they always find a way to accomplish is seen as impressive. Coin, country, and family play a part in their mental motivations as well.Society
Vodane society depends on the particular region. Those of the Vodane who stayed near the sea tend to lean towards a more free loving almost pirate type lifestyle or ideals while those more inland fall more into a caste system and a settler and king mentality. Both claim the Vodane name as their race with a constant change of hands and trade between the two in order to expand their influence. There are multiple privateer settlements that litter the borders of the Core Sea and its rivers along with an underlying skullduggery society that surrounds the constant desire for treasure or goods. The inland kingdoms tend to sponsor certain boats or trades from their coin. Vodane kingdoms are small with proclaimed kings and smaller lords over the lands that they have won. During the time of the Scale when they were oppressed, many kings and lords gave up their lands in exchange for the Dragonlords allowing them to continue to rule and protect their people.Character Features
