Pre-WorldEmber Musings - 2025
Two days before WorldEmber begins, I've decided I'll take part! This is a new world that I just thought of last week so it's a bit of a last minute decision. But I'm excited! I've chosen the first row of the bingo.
Also, I don't really have time to create some fancy formatting for this homework because I want some time for some basic world CSS... hopefully it's not too bad!
Review or collect your world inspirations
Numenera: Not for the world's history, but for the aesthetics of its magic system. There are pieces of modern/futuristic technology around the world that people treat as magic. Magic itself, undestood as some sort of unexplained energy that infuses everything, is still a thing in this world, but most people won't interact with it directly. I've recently read
Sixth of the Dusk: I'm currently reading Isles of the Emberdark, which is inspiring me to create a world where the world itself is a character. Avatar (the blue aliens) is a similar inspiration for this specific theme too.
Daggerheart: This setting is being created with the Daggerheart RPG system in mind. Which means tons of sapient species, monsters, etc. This is a bit new for me, as the most sapient species I've ever had in a world is seven. Might be a bit of a challenge, but I'm sure it will be fun!

I edited it recently and seems to be up to date. I still don't like the background image I have but... Don't really feel like finding or making a different one.
Create a moodboard for your area of focus
This requires finding images and other things to represent it. I'm not sure if I have time to do it properly in two days so for now I'm leaving this undone! (not a great start to the bingo, huh...)
Review or set up your world homepage
I generally keep my homepages very short, with a very brief quote in the beginning and then links to the pillar pages/categories. As it stands, this world is currently empty soooo the short description will have to do for now. I'll definitely revisit this once this world is a bit more solid though.
Review your category tree
I'll go for a topic-based category tree this time! My main project, Black Light, is location-based. But Telumar doesn't have self-contained locations, so organizing it by topic seems much more useful.
Bonus assignment: Define the scope
I want Telumar to be a relatively small and manageable world. There will be multiple countries—but not many—, and I'd like to focus more on depth than breadth. However, I'm just getting started so my goal for this WorldEmber is focusing on the fundamentals. If by the end of the year I have a clear image of the fundamentals of the world (countries, cultures, cosmology, religions), I will be happy!

Working on a smaller setting can be so satisfying, especially if you've been working on a big one for a while. Best of luck getting those fundamentals in place!

Thank you! Really excited to get started, and also to see what everyone else creates this month! :D
