    Political event

After nearly a century of persecution, Queen Maraine II allows the Baran't people to resume their ancestral religion. After significant resistance from the Baran't people over this time, and a number of minor outbreaks of violence, scholars were able to determine the religion was not the work of some dark god tricking an entire people into worship as was originally thought. Despite initially soothing tempers, tension remains to this day over the events during the so-called "Great Desertion" wherein some Baran't stopped venerating their ancestors and began worshipping the Twelve.

Lead by Banner General Tamal Nerek, the bands were pursued back into the mountains...directly into the trap laid for the Gantrians. Meratak Valley became the final resting place of nearly 2,000 soldiers.

Following this disaster, the newly crowned King Emon III gathered his forces from across the land. Over the next 6 years, Gantrian armies and eight Mattathian Orders scoured the mountains. No quarter was given to any enemy. Their caves were found and put to the torch. Their shamans and the priests of their dark god Maglubiyet were given over to the Orders for questioning. All signs of their handiwork was destroyed.

In the end, the last remnants of the Great Goblin Host were destroyed at the Battle of Zirol Pass in 903 GR. Tired and weary from years of hard fighting, the combined forces of good left the mountains. None doubted that some of the wretched creatures survived, but their population had been decimated. The kingdom would be safe from them for
