01-20-963: Where There's some Twill, There's a Play

General Summary

In preparation for their big night at the theater, the party headed across the river to find some new clothes. Stopping first at Dashing Draperies they met Therava, a Tabaxi woman with an impressive array of very fine garments. The tailor's excitement to create clothing for an audience with a Prince turned into dismay when she discovered it was for that very evening, and then turned into disgust when she thought she was being told tall tales of the Beggar Prince. After being forbidden from ever coming back, the party found themselves a little ways down the road to Threadwares, where the no-frills dwarf Arbadis outfitted them with some clothes that were perfectly respectable, and fit Dr. Venma into a simply dashing cloak.

Dressed, if not to the nines, at least to the eights everyone made their way to scope out the theater rather than blindly walking in. Venma practiced his flourishing while Luci got one of the stagehands to show him up to the box they'd be in for the evening. Along the way, the stagehand commented that the box they were going to be in hadn't been used in a decent amount of time, then had to get back to work before he could show Luci out. Like a good egg, Luci didn't snoop too much on his way out, but saw the Director lounging in front of the stage giving last-minute direction to the actors.

Later that night, properly outfitted and ready for their meeting with the Beggar Prince, the party arrived back at the Luminis Theater. Well-to-do patrons entered via a ticketing area where they were led to their seats and boxes, while the general public filed in through wide double doors into the open floor area. After their usher returned with the key for their box, they were shown into the two-tiered seating area, set with a few bottles of fine wine, and a platter of fruits, bread, and cheeses and a tall stool by the door for an attendant. As they looked out on the gathering crowd, they spotted Bishop Laren Albis and Father Rowley Ilatris in another box, chatting with each other. As the lights dimmed, a man of middling height in his early 40s with a close-cropped beard and tanned skin stepped on stage. He introduced himself as Nicodiemas Elothar, the playwright who penned the evening's entertainment, and welcomed everyone to its first ever performance. A tale many know of, but few know, he hopes the audience will enjoy the inaugural performance of The First King of the Baran't!
