01-06-963: My career is in Ruins!
General Summary
On the morning of the 6th of Aven, Chedvah and Dr. Venma awake in the Leeward Stone before visiting Hogar Druuz at his shop outside of the North Gate. Dr. Venma consulted Hogar about a strange illness afflicting his home town, and though Hogar couldn't think of any remedies that the good doctor hadn't tried already, he said he would do some reading about more exotic cures which might have some potential. Hogar also suggested speaking to a cleric although he conceded that the clerics of Avandra might not be the most helpful, since they are usually busy rooting out corrupt nobles. Dr. Venma thanked Hogar for his assistance and replenished his supplies from assisting Fedbir.
Finished at Hogar's, Chedvah and Dr. Venma headed back to see Mira Penfell at the Golden Leaf Trade Consortium to see about some work she had alluded to previously. She was very glad to see them and asked them to hurry after some people she had sent to investigate some ruins to the north. New reports indicated that the previously-sighted goblins also had a tougher leader and several beasts with them, and Mira feared the three people she had sent out would meet their doom if they didn't have any aid. She offered them three healing tonics and promised a reward of 25 gp each upon return before seeing them off and wishing them well.
Having set out earlier in the morning, Lucius and Nexus came upon what appeared to be the scene of a fight between two goblins, a large rat, and two unknown humanoids. They determined one goblin survived to flee north and was followed by the two humanoids. After spending some time investigating the area, they were happened upon by Chedvah and Dr. Venma, wheezing and coughing from the effort of catching up. Introductions were made before they continued on in search of Dendra further toward the ruins.
Dendra, and her new follower Florian Debock slightly before the rest of the party, and she began to scout the ruins. She was quickly spotted by a patrol, and retreated back to the road where she found Nexus, Lucius, Chedvah and Dr. Venma just arriving. After dispatching the patrol and their worg, names were exchanged and a plan was made to approach the Ruin. Lucius crept up to the top of the hill, and took a look around the open central area, only to see a single goblin, painted with all manner of patterns along his body, taking a poo. Seeing no others in the area, Lucius returned to the group, and they all snuck up to the ruin together.
The group's attack began by goblinnapping the painted one Lucius had seen previously and knocking it out. The good doctor tied it up and set it aside in the woods while the rest of the party decided what their next steps should be. Meanwhile, a worg caught their scent and called out to some others in the area. The party caught site of a Hobgoblin, who shouted for his underlings to get up as their was someone nearby. Still planning, Lucius was unaware of the Worg sneaking up behind him until it was too late and it bit him badly. A battle ensued during which the Hobgoblin was felled by a swift stroke from Dendra, and another prisoner was taken.
In the aftermath, a farming family was found in a hidden cellar along with a man by the name of Weylin Orian. A journal kept by the Hobgoblin indicated that it had taken command of a nest of goblins in the Talenelat forest and discovered one among them was a "Booyagh" or a goblin posessing magic. He planned to return to the Canglir once taking some more slaves along the way and collect his reward for finding a Booyagh. This Booyagh turned out to be the painted goblin Lucius had seen earlier, and upon questioning it indicated that it had gotten magic from a "pretty blue water lady in big forest river" that was south about "half moon."
Lucius saw the thankful family on their way and gave their child a gold piece to spend when they next made their way into town. The booyagh and the other captive were released on the condition they return to the mountains, which they readily agreed to. As the group began to head back to the Crossroads, Lucius had some fun ribbing Florian about being scared and the two bickered politely along the road home. Weylin gladly travelled back with them, preferring his bed to trying to secure the rare volume he had originally set out for. As night fell and the party drew close to the Crossroads, back to safety, rest, and reward.
