The Thalatha Osteani

The Three Bones

According to the sandwives of the deep desert, the time before the cataclysmic events of the Confluence was idyllic, for a while. Until, that is, a Queen of Undeath and Fire emerged from the notorious Firemoors. Wreathed in necrotic energy and wielding flame like a whip, she enslaved all of land, crushing all resistance. Her power was so great, it is said she could draw comets down out of the sky, and that she easily bent the will of even the strongest to her whim. She possessed all treasure, owned all land; and was owed all tribute throughout the entire desert west of the Landzide Mountains. Her reach had begun to creep east even from there, and in their jungle nests the Lizardfolk quaked with fear at the mention of her name; Lech'Taisha, the undead queen of desert fire.   Some, there were, who resisted. Led by Walkers on the Weave, the three armies of the Desert Lords came together, and defeated her forces. Yet, before they could celebrate, Lech'Taisha arose in flame, and all seemed lost, until the Three Sages came together to defeat her.   You see, there had been a great desert dragon. A massive creature of brass, Vekhetmauritarilax was as ancient as the wind, and as powerful as the sky itself. So it was, that when he died finally of immense age, his flesh arose as myriad stars to disperse amongst the cosmos. But on his death, he gifted three great items. He forged a helm that would come to be known as The Crown of Bone; a scepter and rod of office later called The Rod of Barrax, and the essence of a meteor inside The Starfall Orb. Using these items, together as a team, the three sages were able to defeat Lech'Taisha. Together, the artifacts worked at a harmonic frequency that boosted the power of the whole far beyond the sum of its parts. The sages were able to shrug off powerful attacks, and counter the lich's spells with ease. They became immune to the Queen's domination and charm, and were able to ignore her resistance to fire. They destroyed the undead body, then the phylactery, and in so doing saved the Desert Kingdoms for generations to come.   The items were seperated, and jealously guarded, and passed out of the knowledge of all but a few. But one day, the Thalatha Ostean, the Three Bones, will once more be revealed. One day, they will be needful yet again.

The Thalatha Ostean

  • When all three artifacts are brought within five hundred yards, their behavior alters profoundly:
  • Worldshaper’s Halo: Collectively, the wielders gain nine resistances to destiny itself, refreshing at each dawn.
  • Triune Invocation: A single wish may be evoked without peril, once per cycle.
  • Veilbreaker Effect: A one-mile radius around the relics is destabilized; spells surge, concentration becomes unbreakable, and magical mishaps escalate violently.
  • Balance of Three: The relics punish disunity by imposing disadvantage upon dissenters.
  • Before even the events of the Confluence occurred,
    before the Glaine Cuan was formed;
    Prior to the Travelers travails,
    the Queen of the Firemoors was born.
