Gnelson Engine
A brilliant amalgamation of magic and good old fashioned engineering, Dr. G. Gnelson Biafre's genius invention has revolutionized the transportation industry. Put quite simply, this engine uses magic to create water and steam, which turns a flywheel that provides torque.
It has been adapted for use in a variety of different situations; most notably, river craft have begun sprouting up that are sporting the plodding but steady Gnelson Engines, and have slowly been taking the freight business over from traditional Ox Barges.
Doctor Biafre has since gone on to invent the Gnelson Auto Tuner, the Gnelson Phase Converter, the Gnelson Drum Braking System for heavy load freight carriers, and the Biafre Industries Portable Soft-Serve Ice Cream Machine. He maintained until the day he died that the ice cream machine was his proudest moment.

These engines are all custom built artisanal pieces of Gnomish ingenuity, and as such are still wildly expensive.
These marvels of magical engineering are much more complex than their simplistic descriptions would have them seem. They are built to within minute tolerances; each one is made for a specific job, and installed with a singular purpose. Whether that purpose is Lydia Hartunian's famous Luxury Trains or the Whitten Queen herself, each one is hand made and extensively tested before being shipped out.
Doctor Biafre thought up the general idea over an evening spent drinking shots of dharak with his fraternity brothers.
