DoaM: 4/13/25

Starting our session at Fodorn's safe house in Southdock Slums, our heroes spent the day criss crossing the river between Southbay and Southdock seeking information. Finding Canker at Gallagher's, they learned that he had been ordered to put the hit out on Karlow by the Midnight Sun consortium. The characters knew Canker was hiding something while they were speaking with him, but alas, they never quite discovered what that was.

Finding Fodorn's safehouse in a derelict ship in the harbor, the party found Fodorn's hidey hole, and his diary. The diary laid out all of Fodorn's actions over the last few days before the murder, and a brilliant Investigation check showed that there were two different styles of handwriting present in the diary; the "earlier" bits, while still juicy, were not as explicit as the last few pages, wherein "Fodorn" confessed to the murder, and to transporting the body to Southdock from Midbay. A clever observation by Rowan revealed that Fel Kylie, Fodorn's suspected accomplice, was not mentioned a single time in the diary.

It has become patently clear that someone is framing Fodorn well and truly.

It has also become clear that the Midnight Sun, a notorious crime syndicate, has something to do with this. They also learned that a dwarf purchased Karlow's lute from Gnelson's Luthiery, in Eastbay, near the gate. The lute was purchased ten minutes after it had been sold to the music shop, almost as if the buyer had been waiting there for it. The dwarves have been purchasing arms and armor from the Moorehead Brothers, another gang even farther up the crime totem pole than Midnight Sun.

The characters discovered that Fodorn was planning on robbing his wife Petunia, and rushed to Gallagher's to warn her, following her to the house she shared with Fodorn. Prying up some floor boards, she removed her stash intact, and absconded back to Gallagher's with her goods. They decided to get some rest at Petunia's house; it was then that the party first encountered the assassin sent to kill them.

After an initially frustrating battle with a hard to see and catch opponent, our heroes finally laid out the bad guy and tied her up, capturing her for questioning, and that is where we will pick up next time, with the Garda now in play and the whole situation becoming more and more dangerous with each passing moment...
