Beetmeister

Each autumn, the people of Pax gather near the banks of rivers great and small to celebrate what the people have collectively decided to call The Beet Jam. It is a food-centered holiday, celebrating both the harvest, and humanity surviving the Impact.

Officiating at these proceedings are what the locals half-jestingly call the "Beetmeister". It is the Beetmeister that kicks the festival off, by downing a mug of ale or mead, and it is the Beetmeister that heads up all of the tasting for judging the food competitions. Throughout the year, the beetmeister is invited to weddings and parties, and to get the first sample of mead or ale from breweries large and small. They are considered good luck, and often invited for a drink by strangers, or asked to attend someone's family cookout, to bring good luck for the next year and a day.

Qualifications

Beet carving, and a fair bit of dumb luck. Participants must exceed nine years of age.

Requirements

A beet to carve for the Great Root Race at the end of the festival, when the next Beetmeister is chosen.

Appointment

The winner of the porevious year's Great Root Race, the Beetmeister enjoys a host of little perks throughout the entire year...not the least of which is a whole lot of free food and drink.

Duties

Considered responsible for holding the community's good luck, the beetmeisters make themselves available for weddings and other affairs, and hold themselves to a standard of good cheer, greeting their fellows with hearty hellos and beaming smiles. It is a duty of love for one's community and neighbors.

Responsibilities

Beetmeisters are responsible for the community's luck all the year round, and maintain it by being cheerful and boisterously merry all year. It is, in fact, quite a lot of work.

Benefits

The Beetmeister, being the embodiment of the community's luck, winds up being invited to all of the best parties, and weddings, in the area. Breweries and ale houses always ask the Beetmeisters to sample the first batch of new products, and any time they walk into a tavern or bar there is a loud cheer.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The Beetmeister wears a distinctive top hat and an enameled pin in the shape of a beet.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Beetmeisters are changed out at the end of The Beet Jam every year, with the winner of the Great Root race.

History

The Beetmeister's roots are lost to the depths of time, but the world famous Bardic College Campus has determined that the position hearkens back to the Times of Toil, after the Impact wiped out most of the life on Tellus.
