Bratimund, Worldtree Sapling
Bratimund is a polytheistic temple dedicated to a multitude of new gods from the mythos of the Fauna. The temple is carved into the trunk of a massive tree in the center of the city of the same name, the capital of the nation of Everwood. The outside of the temple is stripped of bark but largely covered in vines and moss. Twisting roots grasp large cracked boulders which litter the base of the tree. A small stream of springwater flows from between the cracks in the stones and roots. The entrance to Bratimund is obscured by long, lithe glowwillow hanging from the trunk that pools on the rough-hewn stone pathway leading into the tree. Passing through the hanging strands, the main chamber of the temple is a vacuous space. Around the outskirts of the central chamber, endless shrines line the walls, exhibiting idols and offerings of all kinds. Hanging from large openings in the ceiling and walls are ladders and ropes. Ascending these leads to more shrines honeycombed throughout the inner structure of Bratimund with passages reaching high into the branches. In the center of the large chamber, at the base of a large root and partially submerged in frigid springwater, is an immense, multifaceted, beautifully-carved geode covered in faintly shining crystal growths. This geode is called the Many-Faced Gem and has several mysterious properties.
The shrines range from single offerings to unnamed gods left in open spaces to large, organized displays to well-known gods with resources for visiting parishioners to perform sacred rituals. The larger shrines have organized clergy members who coordinate group worship and maintain the resources and doctrine of their faith. Although the insides of the tree are dedicated to worship, the limbs are filled with markets and businesses.
Bratimund itself is also worshipped as a deity of religion. Its members have claimed responsibility for the care and cultivation of Bratimund and administrate the shrines contained within.
