Elaz-Marin

Elaz-Marin's place in the world has been fixed for as long as history remembers. Its face has changed, but the ancient secrets below its surface have not.
-- Atlas of the Old Empire
Elaz-Marin is known by many names, and was once considered the cradle of magic. Its hero-queen Sairin wrested the Flame of Magic from the Aldsange. What caused its untimely fall is buried in the forgotten mists of time. The Old Empire constructed itself as the successor of Sairin's will after recovering the Flame of Magic from the ruined city. Like Elaz-Marin before it, the Empire brought order and safety to the world before collapsing.

Elaz-Marin is located on the western border of Fidira at the slopes of the Lecheiye Ranges that divide Fidira from Morbhaine.

Sairin's legacy ended when Elaz-Marin was sacked by the forces of the Eight Princes approximately two-thousand years ago. In response to this, Ralthach the Red marched from the west -- the area now Morbhaine -- and retook the city. This was the beginning of Ralthach's Empire. Elaz-Marin crumbled in the wake of the catastrophic events that toppled the empire its saviour built. The ruined city is now a wild overgrown maze, but some of its architectural splendour remains, refusing to crumble beneath the crushing weight of time. The ruins are unsafe for civilised people, and are crawling with groups of outlaws, savages, and monsters.
