Sassinism

The serpentine aj'va worship a large collection of minor spirits and deities worship by the various tribes. Often superstitious, the aj'va also worship a larger collection of powerful deities, based off the original Guardians or Shyn'A of Telarith.

Structure

Sassinism has no true organization, and is based solely on the local tribes, their elders, and who, what, and how they worship. However, the tribes generally have similar beliefs and gods they worship.

Mythology & Lore

The aj'va have a variety of myths, but most start after the Great War. Their elders tell of a time when powerful beings shaped the world and fought against their foes, calling upon the ancestor of the aj'va to fight for them. These gods, after winning the war, then gave one last gift to the world, sacrificing their lives to empower Telarith with true life and charging the aji race to protect the woods and jungles.   The gods, referred as the Sassin, became divided into innumerable spirits that inhabit rocks, streams, rivers, and all manner of life and creation. However, the Sassin still remain alive, to a degree, and the aj'va continue to commune, pray, and offer sacrifices to them.

The Sassin

According to the aj'va, the Sassin, their pantheon of gods, are divided and have, in a since, become the world, but are still conscious, to a degree, at least. They can be called upon and the aj'va seek their divine favor by fulfilling their pledge to them, carried out so long ago.   In fact, the aj'va worship convoluted tales of the Guardians, whose exact history has been altered by their oral tradition.

Ross'mash (Yabram'Al)

The King of the Sassin, he is known as the Four-Headed, said to be a serpent with four great heads able to devour his opponents. Three of his heads were cut off during the Great War, and they were used to form the mountains of the world. He is also worshiped as the god of courage, leadership, and battle and war, and is very popular.

Rss'ral (Tysh'Al)

The god of forges, stonework, and craftsmanship, Rss'ral did not fully divide himself into unnumbered spirits and creatures, but left a small but powerful portion of himself behind. Rss'ral is thus considered a more active god, but also less capable in altering the nature of the world itself.

Vssheras (Ishra)

The Serpent of Many Colors, Green-Scale, Bringer of Life, Vssheras is one of the more popular gods, a fertility goddess of motherhood, agriculture, and birth. She is often worshipped with wayshrines and idols in the household, and the rainbow is said to be a part of her large scaly body. Some believe she remains trapped under the earth, constantly bringing new life to the surface, but when she stirs earthquakes and volcanoes erupt.

Kliss'cras (Leisraen)

The Waterborn, Stirrer of the Seas, Kliss'cras is a water goddess and ruler of oceans, seas, rivers, and streams. The aj'va believe she was deep blue and had large fins, and worship her as a half-serpentine humanoid fish creature. She is also worshipped as a goddess of beauty, love, and storms, and in ages past she slithered across the lands, her tail cutting the streams and rivers that crisscross its surface.

Sa'ss'rol (Sa'judthus)

A fire god and the foe to Ross'mash, Sa'ss'rol is often perceived as a trickster and deceiver, and many credit him with leading the aj'ra from their rightful path. However, he is still worshipped, particularly in manners of planning and tact, and he is portrayed as a many-handed aj'va warrior with flaming swords. At the end of the world he is said to bring about the Time of Proving, when the aj'va must all stand against the forces of evil and finally strike Sa'ss'rol and his followers down.
